I bought it because it is practical for my students but
they all know they don't need it.

Use a simple ruler at 45° and you just saved 60+ £! :)
 
As above you can make your own version for free, which I did initially. However, I had some Amazon vouchers to use and so bought the lenscal, and whilst it's a massively overpriced piece of plastic it does the job and is more convenient than home made versions imo. Easy and quick to set up and stow away. Folds flat so easy storage.
