Spyder elite calibration help

I have a dell ultra sharp 2405 that I have had for a few years. I'm trying to get a decent profile calibrated without much accurate success from photos returned from print (photobox).

When the calibration wants to set a target brightness of 180 cdm even if I turn my monitor up to 100% I can only achieve 133. If I leave my brightness at 50% and let the calibrater do it's thing it sets it at 80.

Edited images returned are still too dull in comparison to my calibrated monitor :(

Any help or tips?
 
If your prints are dark compared to your monitor then your monitor is still to bright. Not sure why the Spyder is trying to get you up to 180Cd/m2. Most monitors are set in the 120-140cd/m2 range, and in some cases a bit lower.

Not used the latest version of the Spyder so I may not be of to much help, however there is an EXPERT Mode option within the software. Try opting for this. It may give you an opportunity to set the brightness level.If so opt for about 130 for a start. White point go for 6500K . Gamma go for 2.2

Thanks for that link John. I will have another run through tomorrow using that guide and see what my results are like :)

If that fails I have another monitor which I might try setting up instead.
 
I've recently bought the Spyder 3 Elite. Just finished calibrating the monitor (HP LP2475w) and my pictures now appear dull and flat whereas previously they were bright and punchy.

Is this normal or have I done something wrong.
