Whilst walking along the desolate coast that is Spurn Point, looking for a decent picture, I came across a line of rotting posts embedded in the beach - there's a picture in there somewhere, the texture, the curving lines, the beach debris - thing is, I can't find it!

A few days later, in an art shop in Whitby, there was a beautiful black and white print of the same view - taken from a similar angle.

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to ask, but I would really like some opinions and guidance - is there a picture in there? I've tried desaturation and adjusting levels and curves etc. but it's just not working.

In my mind I can see a decent black and white conversion, would something like Silver Effex help me?

Do I need to delete this file and head back to Spurn Point?

Thanks,

Chris

If you have PS image > greyscale image> duotone play with the presets image > RGB

Can give pleasing results

10/10 for Lol Phil :-) - I'd forgotten what they were called.

Thanks Paul, I have CS4, so I'll have a go with greyscale and duotone.

After posting I had a look at Silver Effex - a bit pricey!

Thanks for the replies guys.

I had a quick play, B+W in photoshop and in camera raw just added a hint ow warmth to the shadows.

Thanks Wayne, that's an improvement on the original. As we have some traditional British bank holiday weather today, I'll find the time to improve my B&W conversion skills.

This was, like Wayne's, adjusted in RAW and mucked about with as a doutone - combination of black and pantone yellow, then sharpened using high pass + hard light. Oh, and I cropped it a bit as well.

Morning Jon, Thanks for your edit. You've prompted me to take my first look into the Split Toning tab in ACR - uncharted territory for me - so many variables to think about.

It's great to see different interpretations of the same image - a good pastime for a wet BH.

Yeah, and spare a though for thought for those of us who are out there in it, trying to get cold, wet kids to smile :gag:
