Not being a wealthy man I really appreciated the 10 months interest free credit terms for equipment as offered by Jessops.

Since they have sadly gone bump does anyone know of other reliable mail order traders who offer similiar terms ( the interest free is not essential .. just the means to spread the pain over a period of time)...

Any suggestions/ pointers welcome....

I think you'll find Jessops are alive and well once more... just with fewer shops, but still with a web presence. I'm not sure if they're still doing interest free credit.

I know Clifton Cameras do credit... but I've never used them, so can't really endorse.

clifton do 12 months interest free or 24 or 36 at 19.06% apr - or get an interest free credit card

As you are a Canon chap this doesn't help much but Nikon specialist Grays of Westminster do 6 months Interest Free credit even on used kit.

I bought my 5D MK III from HDEW on with a Barclays interest free credit card.

I found HDEW to be pretty much perfect in terms of customer service, product and communication.

They didn't have the MK III listed on their site but they have a UK number so rang them and spoke to someone who told me they didn't have any in stock but would have a couple of days later. I checked their site 2 days later and sure enough it was listed. Thought being able to speak to someone so easily was great, and appreciated them not listing items on their site they didn't have in stock.

As they don't dodge the VAT like some companies Canon regonise the 12 month warranty and you get a further 2 years free with HDEW.

I'd double check that , as their Canon goods don't qualify for the cashback deal . So wouldn't like to say if Canon UK would honour any warranty claim .

thanks for all the above I'll certaintly look through the suggested deals.. I did consider an intrest free cc but I suspect would end up with a lot more gear than I actually plan to purchase depending on the credit limit available to me

I think thats what they call lack of restraint...
