new to hobby and using a canon 40d, I am on a limited budget and thinking of using a spotting scope for some garden bird shots, any advice may be welcome.
thanks

There are a few ways to achieve this and my attempts were most successful using a slower lens (ie, one with a smaller object element). Fashion a crude adapter to fit over the end of the lens where the hood normally fixes and reduces the diameter to match up with the spotting scope eyepiece. Initially, you'll need some flexibility on the distance between the eyepiece and the lens but the dimensions can be fixed once you've made a few test shots.

If you "google" canon & digiscoping then you'll find a host of sites with details of setups and examples of resultant shots.

Hi

two sites I found to be very good for digiscoping (as it is known).

http://www.birdforum.net/forumdisplay.php?f=243

http://www.digiscoped.com/

I have converted a 600mm telescope (Skywatcher Pro 80ED) for bird photography using advice from these forums.

In particular the following thread has been very useful if going the telescope route

http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=100519

There are also very good threads on the birdforum.net site covering using a spotting scope and the adapters required.
