A great tip for tailgating on a motorway (not sure if it works in a 30 zone), is to put your front washers on...apparently the splashback hits their window and it sort of makes them jolt into thinking a bit....

LOL. A guy I used to know had his brake lights wired through a switch on the dash. He used to flick it on when they were right on his back bumper, as he dropped a cog and floored it.

A quick tap on the foot brake usually makes the tailgater drop back.

Edit. CT sort of got there first.

I must admit I've done that...gentle tap on the brake with my left foot to activate the light while I'm still accelerating....

Or i've been dead clever and Heel-and-toed it :p (Can't do that manuoeoeoeouvre properly though)

I was in my friends car once and he had a tailgater....

He just said say "Hold on". Then just anchored up :cuckoo:

It did stop them tailgating though...lol

I had a conversation with Arkady a while ago about this - bearing in mind he's posted in Germany at the moment. He says you still get tailgaiters at 120Mph on the Autobhans  Apparently easily solved by spraying your windscreen washers AND tapping the break pedal at the same time  It's amazing how quick they drop back confronted with a red blur in front of them

Ahh! Now I see the genius of my Honda design - I have one nozzle of the spray jet pointing direct over my windscreen and I've been trying to "correct" it for some time now (but to no avail). Now I see what it's for! Thanks, Grendel!

I will stick to 30 in 30's, and 40 in 40's but everything else is fair game and I will go as fast as I like dependant on:

a) weather conditions
b) amount of traffic
c) how far I can see ahead (i.e you should never be travelling faster than you are able to stop)
d) speed camera locations

i agree with this.

speed cameras dont work, people see cameras and slow down and then speed up afterwards while muttering something under their breathe.

what is better is to have a speed detector on the road which if it detects someone speeding it puts a set of lights to red, sits the driver stationary for a while and then sets them off again, three sets of them in a village would soon give the rat runners a message!

There are possibly 100's of speed cameras in Berkshire, but according to the speed awareness lecture that one can attend after being caught speeding, only 12 of them are actualy working at on time.

Also my company are at the moment, making a part for tiny average speed cameras that could be, and may well be fitted to every catseye on evey road if needed.

I watched in amazement a few months ago, a report on the news about members of the community being issued speed cameras to keep check of the speed of cars on their local roads. The (old) lady was zooming back and forth, trying to zap every car that passed like something out of star wars. At one point the gun display indicated the car was travelling 215mph:lol:
