Look A Bit More

The Honda crotch rocket rider was traveling at approximately 85 mph. The VW driver was talking on a cell phone when she pulled out from a side street, apparently not seeing the motorcycle. The rider's reaction time was not sufficient enough to avoid this accident. The car had two passengers and the bike rider was found INSIDE the car with them. The Volkswagen actually flipped over from the force of impact and landed 20 feet from where the collision took place. All three involved (two in the car and the bike rider) were killed instantly.

This graphic demonstration was placed at the Motorcycle Fair by the Police and Road Safety Department.

Pass this on to car drivers or soon to be new drivers, or new motorcycle owners AND ESPECIALLY EVERYONE YOU KNOW WHO HAS A CELL PHONE!

A picture is worth a thousand words.

Wake up people, Stop talking on Cell phones and Texting while trying to drive.
Put your Cell phone in the back seat !

I got this in an email a while ago. Was good timing. My son passed his driving test about a week before. Made him think long and hard when I showed him it.

Kev.

hmmm...why not try preaching a bit to bikers too? Or is 85mph acceptable for a bike? Not saying the car driver was innocent, but by no means was the biker either.

It annoys me that no matter what the biker seems to be doing, it's always the car drivers fault.

Maybe in this case it's because it was the car drivers fault

If the bike was doing 30 or 300 the car would have still pulled out & people would still have been killed / injured :(

Interesting read Rich .... however this has a touch of the urban myth about it, especially with a swift google search.

LINK

The car is a left hand drive, its origins appear to be from Sweden, the bike travelling at 155mph, no mention of the driver using a mobile phone, the bike rider had only recently obtained a license.

The origin has yet to be confirmed, however the fact that the car is left hand drive would tend to sway towards the Swedish one being correct.

Images are 'VERY OLD' and it was an old anti-speeding campaign. Seems like the OP story has been modified to be a 'using a mobile campaign'

and to ChrisMClark - it was to stop bikers speeding at first, but you have a typical car driver (only) attitude, I've had a lot of near misses from dumb ass car drivers who think its more than acceptable to pull out in front of a bike.

Matt it is not confined to bikes, those same dumb ass drivers pull out in front cars as well ... amazing in my case as I have daylight running lights, they do not look properly, if they cannot see me in a car, then you have no chance on a bike.

Thanks for pointing that out Martyn, as Kev said he had it as an e-mail, same as. I aint preaching nothing ChrisMClark, so get off yer high horse  Bike! :D

Also can't help thinking that if there were three people involved in the accident, I very much doubt the emergency services would have left the bike inside the car. The car could have been cut to pieces to get them out in a vain attempt to save them.

Just seems the typical biker attitude, that every accident involving a bike is the car's fault. I'm not saying it never is, but it's time bikers got the same abuse as car drivers do. I notice you make no mention of what the limit was when the biker was going 85? Even if it was 60, that's still 25mph over the limit, and that makes a lot of difference to the stopping distance, braking distance and thinking distance. So maybe you need to get off your high horse and accept this was as much the bikers fault as the car driver's. I'm not defending the driver, using your mobile is stupid, and illegal....just like speeding on a motorbike.

Chris I suggest you read the link in my post, the bike was estimated to be doing 155mph, the car driver was not on a phone at the time of the accident. The images have been reused from a couple of years ago, with a different tale of what happened.

The story in the first post is pure fiction

I think it's fair to say there are plenty of stoopid people on bikes and in cars!

The interesting thing for me, is I'd like to see it compulsory for people to have to ride a bike for 2 years, as it sure gives you a different perspective on things ;) :D

Cheers, missed the link. Just really grips me that everytime a biker's involved in a crash it never seems to be their fault.

It would certainly make the roads a lot quieter, and organ waiting lists would be a thing of the past.

there would be one HELL of a mess inside the car if there were 3 splattered unfortunates in there

frankly in the original story, the driver was an idiot on the phone
similarly the biker, was driving too quickly and inappropriately with respect to his vehicle I think.

p.s bike comes in from the RHS, car is LHD.

so the car must pull out across the near lane to get to the right hand lane over the road. In which case the on coming bike would hit the driver's side, not the passenger side. Unless the RHD car was visiting a country where people drive on the left hand side of the road :P

wrong!! but unfortunately funny....
heard about a doctor who was looking at a patients chart..waiting for a cornea transplant...looked out of the window, seeing it was raining and said "shouldn't be too long for your transplant"

Yep. I've heard that one too. :D I seem to remember Stephen Fry mentioned it in a Top Gear interview.

I have noticed it happens vastly more when I am using a motorbike. (i ride everywhere I go with lights on day or night)

I have to point out that that story is also fake! 155mph on a VFR400 with a top speed of 127MPH..

Chris! My biking days stopped aprox 30yrs ago :D So I dont know why you think I am defending bikers  But feel free to Assume I am a biker. I will put my hand up and admit to having a few near misses whilst riding a bike, and in total one accident, which was a car drivers fault. However my thoughts on cars v bikes still stands to this day. If you have rode bikes for a while and then get a car, as a car driver you are more aware of bikers, and can anticipate more on what a bike rider is going to do.

Even if you go out and do a decent CBT it raises your awareness vastly towards bikers. I did one just over a year ago and even though I was careful before I now double check just as I start to pull out in case a biker has come into view.
