Sport or landscape?!?

If the subject matter is mainly climbing I would say Sport but if it's mainly a landscape with a tiny dot of a climber on a distant mountain then it's a landscape.

Climbing is an activity. Not a sport. Ffs. Get it right!

Darts is a 'sport'. Which uses more physical effort?

The definition of sport gets more bizarre! Snooker is not a sport, neither is Darts in my view! Bridge is competitive, but no way is a 'sport'.

Looking forward to seeing some great climbing pics!

Hahhaha good question !!! I would say sport also but depends on composition of image I guess

What are you taking a picture of? I.e. what is the subject, if it is the person then it seems to me it is sport; if it is the rock/cliff/mountain it's landscape. Think about it like this, if I started taking pictures of football grounds, that would be architecture but if I photographed football games, players in action then it would be sport.

As for the "is climbing a sport" debate then the word "sport" is one of those that has loads of meanings but I think bridge and chess are ruled out because they do not involve any physical skill whereas darts and snooker do. Some definitions require an element of competition but that does not need to be direct competition (e.g. things like long jump) and the best climbers are often trying to climb the hardest route, competing both with their own abilities and with others who are also trying to climb hard routes. There is also "Sport" in the huntin' shootin' fishin' sense of undertaking a physical activity for pleasure.

For those saying if the subject is predominantly the rock/mountain rather than the climber it's a landscape - then you should consider that many action/outdoor sports magazine's regularly use pictures where the actual person being pictured is a tiny part of a dramatic landscape - they are still the subject because the pic wouldn't get used without them being in the picture.

As a football photographer I can envisage a scenario where I took a wide angle photo of a large part of a stadium that I would still consider a 'sports' shot - now if I'm doing a thirty second exposure of the same view of a stadium and photoshopping the hell out of it afterwards - then that's landscape
