weekly Spooky's 52: Miniature

I like both your pictures I really like the shadows in captive and the epression you have manaed to capture. I look forward to seeing what adventures Danbo has

Absolute bloody genius. I wondered how Danbo was going to shrink. Is that a composite shot?

Edited because I just realised Danbo isn't your own invention. I've lost all respect, frankly ;)

Thanks for the kind words; sorry- Danbo is not my creation, unfortunately! I wish he was though.

Yes this is a composite. I think it works in conveying he has shrunk but also kind of wish I'd included a clearer visual reference, possible some coins or something.

Cheers

Well the bottle's a clue but the fact that you DON'T need the reference is that's what's clever about it.

My original post had said how very wealthy you'd be once Danbo became famous as the face of Amazon. Alas.

You've worked him hard, that Danbo. Another clever image and very nicely composed. Love the colours

Hi, another good take on the theme I like the processing you have used on all the images, bit of a niggle for me would be the writing on the bottle it would be nicer without it

Danbo looks a cute innocent miniature, but I'm not sure I understand the relevance of the "Drink Me" ransom note. o_O

Beautiful BG.

Ooh - my favourite so far - the Wonderland idea is inspired, and the softness adds to the sense of unreality in the story. I was also a bit confused when Danbo popped up in a Flickr shot earlier this week - I thought he was your invention, too. Thank goodness for Google!

Many thanks for all the lovely comments. New what I wanted to do with this one but just took me a few days to have the time to put it together. Not 100% happy with it but glad it seems to be working.

Danbo in wonderland :)

Very clever and nicely done. I wouldn't have picked up that it was a composite, thought it was sort of tilt-shift.

I had toyed with using faux perspective - as they did in Lord of the Rings - and tilt and shift effects but nothing really worked. In the end a composite was the method that worked best. I shot the bottle, message and bg as one shot and then replaced that set up with Danbo on a white sheet of paper. Composited them in PS using layer mask and the darken blending mode.

Thanks; I wasn't too sure about the pink to begin with. I knew I wanted a checked bg but was hoping to find less vibrant. However, I liked the way the pink worked and made it look almost sweetshop / candy floss esque.

Good to see the continuation of the theme :) Loving the Alice references to produce your miniature shot.
Nice lens effect directing focus to the centre.

Thank you - glad people got the Alice reference.

Danbo is looking spot on for the theme Simon ...another excellent shot.

Cheers - hoping I can see him through for the next 49 shots

Cheers - I agree about the writing. I did rotate it to have the less obtrusive text in shot; certainly didn't want the Molten Brown logo showing.

Beautiful BG.

'Drink Me' comes from Alice in Wonderland - the potion she drinks to shrink herself to get through the door into Wonderland.

Border works really well. Not sure if I'd prefer all the text in focus, but it does have a really dreamy feel to it.

Cheers.

Thanks - dreamy and fantasy were two moods I was aiming for with this one.

How I would love to have been the creator of Danbo - sadly not :-( Do Google him, or look on Flickr; there are some awesome shots featuring him.

Super pics to start off with Simon, I like the idea of Danbo being used, it's a great character to use.

I do like them all but miniature is my fave, great bg. Works a treat.

Cheers - I think it is my favourite too but always looking to improve on the previous shot. Awaiting the next theme; hoping I might get out on location with him.

I like the shot - the selective focus works well.

perfect image for the theme, really good compostion and angle

Love a bit of Alice in wonderland. Nice take on it, it has a very artistic quality.

Not much to say other than what's been said! For me, a reference point / scale would have been preferable as the note and bottle don't give a sense of size imo. That's being really fussy though!

Was my thought as well - as soon as I had posted it. I may revisit it again as still have the bits in Danbo's memento box.

Thanks for the continued comments

Onto happy...

Hi Simon

A belated welcome to the 52....

Now then, Danbo, I have seen these type of shots before but in in this context or long term project looking forward to seeing how this develops and your brain/ideas/creativity is going to cope with Chris's bag of words !!!

So three themes in, loving them already, a great variety, real good props and very effective lighting, especially like the bar effect in the second, and the PoV on the third is great - really looking forward to following this one (y)

I nearly did an Alice reference glad I didn't as this is better than my idea.
nice composition well done
