Might not be too late

Today there will be a number of fly passes by Spitfires/Hurricanes to mark the 'Hardest Day' of the Battle of Britain.

These will be mostly in the SE (Sadly) passing over the old airfields used in the conflict.

The day will be marked with three flight formations:

Grice flight: Eight aircraft will head south and west to fly over Surrey and West Sussex to the Solent, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and returning via Dunsfold

Mortimer flight: Eight aircraft will head over Eynsford, Chelsfield, Detling, Farninham, Downe and RAF Kenley

Hamlyn flight: Eight aircraft will fly over Sevenoaks, Yalding, Ashford, the former RAF Hawkinge with a special salute over the Battle of Britain Memorial at Capel-Le-Ferne on the white cliffs of Dover

Stood on the top of Detling Hill and witnessed Mortimer flight.
Two formations of four aircraft.
Absolutely superb.

Were you planning it or was it this thread

I wish I could have been there

There's a mass formation at goodwood on the 15th September

Free to get in but you have to register , 40 aircraft flying I think, spitfires & hurricanes

No, I saw it on the local news this morning.
So I went to work and asked for the afternoon off and voila!
Me and a bunch of other people stood on the top of a drizzly hill
SO worth it for that sound alone.

See it's addictive :D

Any Photo's ?

Mortimer changed the route and we saw them very far in the distance. They were scheduled to fly right over us in Vigo and Ryarsh :(

Oh that's a shame :-(
Watched them look like they were going to fly by Detling but they turned and all eight came over.
Straight aerodrome pass.

Yep. We were all set up with our cameras etc. Ah well, there was obviously a very good reason for them doing it so can't grumble. I'm hoping I'm not at football on 15th September for the next one. We did see a couple of spitfires though

best I could get from distance even on a 150-600
