Spending a penny...

Unusual for it to be either way - it's generally in favour of the customer. Having said that, the prices of even wholesale goods are inflated to cover the extra percentage so as the end consumers, we still end up paying for it...

Oh the clip! Is it just the UK that disables them? In Germany, the clips work well. You can do other things while it's pumping.

:agree: A chance to clean windscreen etc. This has annoyed me for years

I once watched a woman create a fountain of fuel when she overfilled her old escort at the pump ahead of me, even without the clip.

We used to have a latch on the pump at work, but it wasn't actually pumped it was gravity fed from a tank so if you din't stop it in time you could empty the whole tank onto the towpath!
 
As many countries don't have this rule, they obviously don't have a serious problem.

I'm sure there was some incident in the past in the UK that triggered the rule. Perhaps in the days when the pumps were not as safe as they are now.

My car comes with new fangled things called washer jets and wipers.
If your windscreen is dirty then you should have cleaned it before starting your journey.
 
A couple of miles on freshly wetted roads will grot up even the best cleaned screen beyond the ability of the car's jets and wipers.

I had a wonder up Whernside yesterday, towards the rain/sleet/snow started and winds picked up to 60mph, i needed to spens a pennd and did so only to find the wind blew it up straight into my face

Tried everyway, the wind up there swirls, was even stood against the wall but the wind was amazingly strong, i can console myself with the fact that i stopped ASAP where some others didnt, one guy soaked about 6 other bystanders LOL

There was even some bleeding snow up there

Very very rarely the safety cut off used to fail, especially if the pump was on a go slow and there was no real "splash back" to auto cut off.
I guess the thinking is if you are holding it you can react quicker, to shut it off, than if you are cleaning the windscreen.

I remember when they were first removed people used to carry a small piece of wood or even use the petrol / diesel cap itself to wedge the trigger open,
(Lorry drivers trick mostly) There is probably some law against that too now :D

I used to use the petrol cap from my old Supra, perfect size to wedge in the handle. Stopped doing that when the pump didn't shut off and dumped a couple of litres over me and the car (mainly the car). I used to smoke in those days and it was ages before I got up the nerve to light up again as I continued the trip. :)
 
Weirdly I had a good laugh at Peter Kay's Car Share too. I didn't think it'd be my thing.

I presume if the nozzle falls out of the vehicle's filler pipe onto the floor, it will shut off in a reliable way. But I'm not sure how.

Edit: Got it now. If the nozzle tips, a ball bearing triggers the cut off lock. See Granddad Husky explain it. When he says nazzle he actually means nozzle.

I love the stuff! Unfortunately, the diet stuff tastes like pish and the full sugar version is too bad for even me to chuck down my throat regularly.

It shouldn't, If that's the case your car needs new wipers.
 
I meant to clean the parts the wipers don't clean - or of course, the indicators whatever. Obviously I need a new car then.
 
If you do get a new car, get one of those self driving ones. You don't need to look out the front window then.
