Ok guys, I trust you lot to be good to me.

I've got £300 to get some new glass for my D5K, currently have the kit lenses 18-55 and Tamron 70-300.

I shoot lots of Basketball and would like advice on whether to get a good prime or a better 'walk-a-bout' lens. Im thinking maybe combine the 2 and get a 35mm 1.8 and the 18-105 nikon or should I invest in something else?

Thoughts please.

Phil.

A second hand Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 or 28-75 f/2.8 - Guess around £250

Sell the Tamron and add the money to your £300 and get a Nikon 70-300VR

Depends what focal lengths you use, do you need the 200-300 range for example, do you need less than 50mm? How important is sharpness or ability to shoot in low light? If you get a Tamron, sell kit lens then you can also get a 35mm 1.8!

Thanks guys,

I get some good shots with my Tamron at the moment, how much better will the Nikon be above this? The Tamron is slow on the af though :(

I need crisp low light shots of action indoors. I use the Tamrom more than the Kit lens.

or....

Nikon 50mm f/1.4 - I haggled and got one for £260

it's fast, small, and I think I've fallen in love!!!

Nikon AF and sharpness better than Tamron.

Cant rate the 50mm 1.4 AFS highly enough either!

Well I bit the bullet today.......

Got the 35mm, sling bag and filter,

Big weekend for basketball with the final 4's.

I'll put it to the test and post some next week.

Tried the Nikon 300 while I was there....... lot of cash but maybe one day

Thanks to you all for your input, I can't wait till the morning now!!

If you shoot a lot of basketball, what about a Sigma 70-200 F2.8 after selling the Tamron 70-300.

WOW! what a weekend

Had a fantastic weekend with Basketball, (it helped that my team won!) And the 35mm is a cracker!

Thanks to you lot for the help & info.

I will post some pics soon.
