How easy is to trigger the 580 remotely?

I already have studio flash heads and a hot shoe trigger. Can this setup be used to control the 580 - OR do I need to buy something else?

Cheers.

depends on what connectors the flash end has. The 580exII can be triggered from a hotshoe input or a pc cord.

I'd say probably but not 100%

What are you using to trigger the heads?

If your studio flash has optical slaves you can use the trigger and remote to fire the 580 which will trigger the optical sensors on the flash heads.. But of course there are better/more reliable ways of doing it..

How remote would you like it?

Various triggers work using IR and/or radio at various distances and at very various prices.

Do you want ETTL or are you happy using it manually?

Indoor or outdoor use?

I use 2 lightheads and a 580EX with skyports. I also bought a couple of hotshoe leads from Lon at www.flashzebra.com Attach a lead and skyport to the 580EX and away you go.:)

I use http://www.lencarta.com/radio-trigge...eyword=trigger which works beautifully.

I thought triggering the 580 would be simple - obviously not!!!

Does the 580 not have a radio receiver built in? Is there no standard protocol for all this?

Link broke?

Modern flash sync can get very difficult, especially when mixing studio lights and hot-shoe guns. But not always ;)

I'm assuming this is what you want to do? Add a 580EXII to your Lencarta studio set up? If you cannot get another Lencarta receiver to plug in to the 580 (sorry, I'm not familiar with Lencarta triggers) then a simple optical slave should do the trick, like this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hama-Slave-Unit-Shoe-Contact/dp/B00005LLPK/ref=pd_cp_ce_1

Most dealers sell something similar for a tenner. It proably won't work outside in daylight, but indoors in a studio environment it will be fine.

I've probably confused everyone here - sorry :-(

Forget about my flash heads etc. All I want to do is to take my 580 off my 400d, position it somewhere and get the flash to fire when I take a shot.

What do I need to do to achieve this?

LOL yes :)

Like DFM says, radio is cheapest - RF-602 in the link for preference. But manual exposure control only. £28.

If you want to retain E-TTL, then another 580EX or an ST-E2 on camera set in Master mode. £150-300.
