As I've mentioned in previous threads, I've been looking at ways to develop my skill set and keep me enthused. From those discussions and thoughts I'm leaning towards portraits and using speedlights, mainly due to a combination of cost and portability.

My question is, there may be an opportunity for me to shoot some make up portfolio shots for friend which I think it would be a great little project. Would a speedlight set up be sufficient? Of course I have a lot of reading and practise to get through but I would like to know if I at least stand a chance.

Thanks

Yes
Read the strobist 101 and look at the effect that different modifiers have.

Lighting is slightly easier with modelling lights, but is still doable without.

Yes.

I shoot a lot of headshots with speedlights and makeup/beauty pictures would be really easy with them.

Thanks guys, I appreciate i have a lot of reading and pracatising to do, but thats half the fun. Whislt i intened to develop my speedlighting skills anyway, which i hope would set me in good stead for big boys lights later on, i didnt want to agree to something if the kit wasn't going to be up to scratch.
