Hi.

I'm currently using a pair of 25w Elemental lights with my lastolite hilite which have given great results over the last year. I am now venturing into outdoor portraits (parks / beach etc) and will be purchasing the likes of a 580EXII for this purpose which is fine.

I am assuming I could also use this flash in line with my indoor studio set up as a third light? Would I be best to use the two 250w I have to light the hilite (currently using one for this) and use the 580EXII for the main light?

I would also need to get another trigger for this too?

Thanks,

Michael

There are a few speedlights available now with built in slave cells, though if you're shooting outdoors, using a radio trigger is advisable.

If you're shooting it off camera I wouldn't bother with a canon flash, overpriced for what you need. I just sold a nikon sb25 on here, which I supplied with a sync lead that plugs into any 3.5mm jack on a wireless receiver, for £50. All you would've needed for that for example would be an umbrella adapter and a stand. Done :)

So a Nissin Di866 would be fine instead of a 580EXII I'm guessing?

Currently using RF-602 as triggers - what difference would a radio trigger make - would this just give a longer range (ie. distance).

Thanks

They are radio triggers lol, any speedlight with a pc socket will do, either built in or as an hotshot adapter, look at old sb25s and canon ez430s and the likes, you can pick these up for 1/4 if the price of a new flash gun, provided they are for OCF work only
