speedlight softbox

I don't quite believe the price, but what you're actually looking at there is a very expensive honeycomb that fits on to a softbox - the softbox is a lot extra!
What you need is one of these Lencarta S-fit adapters (or something similar, also available from other suppliers

Now I know nothing about softboxes, but did see these at Jessops the other day

Interfit Strobies Flex Mount £7.99

I would not think they are going to be that usable with a big softbox myself, but sure somebody will know more.

I'd work out the softboxes you want first - what can you afford and what can you fit in your studio space?

The folding softboxes with the l-shaped metal speedring are a very good starting point and you can get them in varying sizes (generally 40cm and 60cm) for less than £50 including the speedring. You then just need a stand.

There are umbrella with diffuser panels that can be used similar to a softbox, plus the standard shoot-through deign. I'm sure I've seen a hybrid of both......

Phottix does a Westcott apollo 28" 'copy' that is well priced and a very versatile design, although it doesn't have the same amount of spill control (by all accounts) because of the narrower front lip. It is bigger though. The phottixstore is safe to buy from BTW.

Personally, I'd go for either the folding versions (a 60cm one will be versatile) or get one of the big Phottix ones. I love my Apollo 28" but it's better indoors - I do worry it'll blow to smithereens in a strong wind outdoors, which is where most of my shooting happens. For my outdoors softbox work I use a 40cm folding one off ebay.
