Photo Answers Online (Practical Photography and Digital Photo Magazines) have published a table comparing the YongNuo YN-460-II with the (much) more expensive offerings from Nikon and Canon...

Basically, the YN-460-II is giving the same sort of output for £40 as an SB600 or 430 EXII at five times the price....
 
What is very strange is that it doesn't appear that 1/2 power on the YN-460-II is anything like half power - in fact it barely changes from full power (unless I'm misreading the table...)

Both of the others seem to be much closer to expected values.

On the other hand, for sheer power, the YN-460-II represents a cheap option!

Hrmmm, looks like your right, 1/4 is more like 1/2. 1/2 should probably be ignored then!

Interesting results, can these flashes be used in conjunction with the Nikon CLS system, i'm guessing not at these prices :)

:thumbs: the circuit can not be made very well Its ease to just get a big flash output but to have control over it need good design and components. Plus look at all the other things the makers one have like zoom and al the control from camera as well
