hi my nikon sb600 flash has stopped working. its only a year old and not been used excessively. im not sure what the problem is, it turns on fine but just doesnt flash.

anyone have similar problem??

Does the 'Ready' light come on? If it does and the test-fire button doesn't fire it, it sounds like the tube has gone (replaceable but probably not worth the cost if Nikon do it).

Try a two-button reset with fresh batteries (hold Mode + On/Off buttons for 2 seconds).

ok fresh batteries in and the ready light come on. it will also flash when i press the button - but not when i press the camera shutter butter. am i being dim?

How clean are your hotshoe contacts? I had a similar problem and cured it by cleaning the hotshoe with a cotton bud dampened with a bit of vodka!

It's unlikely to be the SB-600 that's at fault then. If you can, try it on another Nikon body can to make sure.

As Rod says, check the contacts on the camera's hotshoe (and the SB-600).

Btw, it might sound silly, but you are using the locking lever aren't you?

If contacts are clean & locking lever locked - if it still won't fire on the hotshoe, it must be a camera/flash setting.

Edit: See if it fires in TTL mode or Manual 1/1 (full power).
