I am currently Nikon, so i have a Nikon sb900 only, i am wanting to get into off camera flash, so i have got a couple of 603 triggers. My question is, i still have a Canon 430 speedlight, and was going to sell it, but would this be a silly move, can i use Nikon and Canon obviously in manual mode together or would it be better to stick with Nikons? It is really well built, better than cheaper flashes, but i am not sure, with being new to this part of photography.

You can use any brand of speedlight if it is capable of manual adjustment. Just be aware the power output can vary across manufacturers, so 1/4 output on one speedlight will not necessarily be the same as 1/4 output on another.
Other than that, no real problems, although the wakeup function will only work on the speedlights that match the triggering system. Easily sorted, just knock off the sleep function on the speedlight.

Ok thanks for the advice, will give it a whirl, bearing in mind the output levels. Many thanks Michael

The Canon has a guide number of 43 where as the Nikon has a guide number of 48.
