Do you all have a specific topic you like to specialise in i.e macro, Wildlife, Portraits, Landscapes etc. I was just wondering if it was o.k. to do what you want or should/do you all specialise in one subject.

I do like wildlife but am getting more interested in the Macro as I find these shots facsinating.

Just being nosey really and thanks for the replies (if any!)

I specialise in landscapes, but get commissioned for some event photography and portraiture.

I like to dabble in all areas to gain experience but still limited by equipment for macro and sports/wildlife.

Need a macro lens and a longer lens to follow those two pursuits.

This is such a diverse hobby we enjoy with so many avenues to follow.
I think it's a good idea to have a play with them all to become a good all-rounder.

Of course its alright to do what takes your fancy:D and you might find yourself drawn to a particular area of interest, but the great thing about photography is that the things you learn in one area can easily be applied to anything else you try.I love flowers and close up work but that doesn't stop me having a go at landscapes and sunsets. The most important thing is that you have fun!

I would say nearly all my photography is of landscapes and occasional architecture. I have always enjoyed landscape work and whilst I am happy to try something different (assuming I have the appropriate gear), there's nothing wrong with sticking to whatever aspect of photography you enjoy.

I have dabbled at portraits, mostly family members, but I've never really felt confident enough to take it any further. So by all means have a try at different subjects and see how you get on - so long as you are happy, that's what matters.

I 'specialise' in cars but get commissions for other things which, 99% of the time pay more than 3x than the car industry! Hmmmm, me thinks I'm in the wrong 'field' :)

You don't have to specialise. At least, not until YOU want to. The world is so vast and people are so different its difficult to give opinions other than those which the "poster" finds attractive or well paid.

You also have to work with what you have, including, time, equipment, environment and skill. For me, swans are numerous on the upper Thames. The Cotswold Wildlife Park is six miles away. Cotswold villages are quaint and unique.

Chill, and have fun, fun, fun. Enjoy the time you have.

I enjoy shooting macro (not very good though), motorsport, landsscapes, sunsets, flowers and plants.

I am trying to dabble in as many as possible but its getting blinking expensive

I like to have a dabble at most types of photography (except portraits) but the things I most like to photograph are flora, landscape, architecture, motorsport and abstract.

It's ironic really, the kind of photos I tend to admire the most are those photo journalistic, "story telling" pictures - usually with people as the main subject. But, for me, that kind of photography just doesn't feel right :|. I think that I have an eye for those images, but sadly not the guts to go with it :p!

Ideally, I'd like to concentrate on landscapes, as I find it really peaceful to be away from people and to have time to think about what I'm doing with the camera.
