anyone know what Royal mail pay compensation for not fulfilling said role?

Im pretty sure they refund you your postal charges provided you can prove the parcel arrived after the designated time.

Yep they refund the charge, there is a form to fill in and they will need a copy of the receipt of posting.

Think they should pay the recipient who quite possibly required the item by a guaranteed time, no inconvenience to the sender.

That's interesting as there is no contract between them ... I stand corrected though.

Quite a few years ago now I used to do a bit of Ebaying selling high value items and everything was sent RMSD. Every week I would trawl through the serial numbers inputting them on the computer and if they arrived even a minute after the guaranteed time I would slap in a claim. I would say probably 20% of them were delivered late but normally always on the day promised so the buyer got their item on time and I more often than not got a refund.
