Spartacus my 52...Week 26 Night...Sorry I’m late...:(

Great shot, the blurring in PP is very well done and looks very natural. The bits you have sharp do look a little over sharpened although this could be because they are right next to the blurred bits . I really like the lighting from the top of the image, it gives the image a good feeling of depth

Sorry I haven't commented on your 52 yet.

I really like Nutrional Values, that's a great idea.

Keep up the good work:thumbs:

I love your Learning shot  and the black and white conversion really works well for me . I'm glad you're getting more fun out of your camera, that's what this is all about :)

Nice one. I like the B&W too, it suits the image.

Same here staffitaxi

Definitely the B&W on the knife & fork though :thumbs:

First of all I'm a little embarrassed to be posting this picture...:(

This has turned out to be the most difficult subject for me...:help:

I gave it some thought a few days ago and was going to do somethings with eggs. Then I saw the superb shot that Dark Star did  so decided to stay away from the egg idea.:shake:

Well as indefensible as it is, the shot doe's contain the book H.M.S Surprise by patrick O'Brian...

Things I've Learnt this week
1. This 52 is going to be a lot harder than I thought.
2. DON'T look at anyone else's on here until you finished you idea.
3. Panicking don't help...

I wouldn't be embarrassed Marcus :) It made me smile - big time :)

Its different, I'll give it that :D Sorry that I beat you to the egg :(

But its a different and surprising picture and I assume the glasses are photshopped on!

Neat job :) And if I'm wrong thats one patient cat you have :D

This made me lol, nothing to be ashamed of there.

At the end of the day we only want out pictures to provoke some sort of emotional reaction.

On to the next one.....

I'd be pleased, not embarrassed, if I'd thought of this one. It made me smile. The cat's expression is pricelss - you can alsmost see the speech bubble: (in 'professorial' voice) "Yes, it's an interesting read, historically accurate and with good cross-referencing" :D

I totally agree with your lessons learned - especially not looking at other people's before you've at least decided on your own shot. Panic's ok when all else fails.

I hope Week 5 causes less stress for both of us. :)

Jean

Yeah I think that's good - cat's expression with the glasses magnifying the eyes really works; fits the theme well too.

You have made that look like one clever mog - you culd have submitted that photo for learning too :)
Good way of getting suprise in there!

That really made me chuckle and sent my imagination into overdrive. I could imagine sneaking downstairs at night and opening the living room door to find a cat wearing glasses reading a book and saying "well what did you think I did at night when you were all in bed"!

I agree about not looking at others postings until you have your own sorted out. I found it made it much more difficult to come up with ideas of my own and also did induce panic.

Excellent stuff on learning and surprise, really like the way the key info stands out, and your cat is fantastic

Great shot, nothing to be embarrassed about there. It's been well done, and works very well, made me chuckle. I', adopting the same policy, not looking at any of the current weeks shots till I've done mine.

That brightened up a somewhat grey day, thank you. Really good, I like this.

I'm the other way from people, I like to look at everyone's shots to get inspiration, normally I see what people have done and it eliminates that type of idea from my head. But then I'm just weird

First of all many thanks to all the people who take the time to comment on my 52 Week project.

As for Week 4 Surprise, thank you for your kind response. I was getting desperate which is why I cat knapped my nighbours cat (Jackson) for the photo shoot. (He was well rewarded)

At the moment I'm at what I call joining a new Gym mentality, you know you start with good intentions, but miss a week and before you know it your not bothering anymore with excuses of one thing or another. But I need to do this or the camera sits back in the bag and won't get the use it deserves.
Rant over (sorry)

This week has been fun again, did lots of stuff but ended up with this one. There was a B&W copy, but I think this looks better.

Things I learnt this week
1. It's good to have a difficult subjet because you really enjoy a easy one.
2. Have a play with B&W, but don't think everything looks good just because it takes you back to your old darkroom days.
3. Keep on good terms with the cat next door, he may be required to get you out of a tricky situation.

Now that is great. Wonderful clear definition in the Knights, with the Kings (??) oof, works really well, black and white, opposing sides, different directions, that's a good three opposites, well interpreted and fits the theme brilliantly.

 Nice play on opposites, will have to try to use DOF myself sometime.
Trouble with easy ones is I should of waited myself to see if I could do better, but impatient as I am I posted early, so it left me all week with out the set task.

Couldn't have put it better myself! I love the inclusion of the oof pieces in the background which adds depth to the shot!

Glad you went colour as well :)

I've just read through your project for the first time - you've had really good ideas so far!

I have to say I like the 'Surprise' picture - well thought out, made me smile :)

The opposite picture's very effective too - great use of DOF, good colours ...

Looking forward to keeping up with this! :)

Nice one. The shallow DoF works really well. The 'surprise' pic made me giggle a tad. Very nice.

Great idea for "Opposites" and executed very well. Lovely DOF and the OOF pieces in the background add extra interest. Glad you opted for the colour version too... oh and cracking composition.

I like!

Well done :clap::clap::clap:

This is a very good shot. I love the clarity, the idea and the positioning of the chess pieces.

I agree with you that black and white, even if it fits the theme is not for everything and I think you were absolutely right in this case to keep it in colour.

10/10

nicely lit and you've got the pieces pin sharp! That's some pretty spectacularly shallow DoF!! Really nice idea

Really nice image and the shallow depth of field works brilliantly, the position of the two OOF Kings are also perfectly placing each of the knights on the third completes the image!

My favourite image of this round!

Surpise - very Harry Potter, I like it  I think you win the prize for the person who moved so far away from the box they could only just see it  Certainly not a prize winning artistic shot but an image I could easily expect to see on a funny email a few years in the future, or on the front of a Funny Birthday Card.

Opposites - I really like this image, you have the DoF perfect and I think you chose well to keep the image in colour (I'm sure B&W would not look 1/2 as good). As others have said the pieces in the background lift this image and make it work

What a cracking shot for Opposites :clap: Great composition, great clarity on the knights, fantastic DoF, and definitely works in colour. You just keep getting better - where's it all going to end :D

Well here we are again, is it me or doe’s the weeks seem to fly by now we got projects to do...
You could be forgiven for thinking what’s Special about this coin. Well it was given to me by a lovely and much missed auntie when I was a boy. For those that are lucky enough not to recognise it, it is a Shilling or 5p today. Well worth having in my day. At the time I so wanted to spend it on a Matchbox toy car. But like all parents around the world you need to save it for a rainy day. So it was taken away for my own good and given back much later when the urge was gone.
But as always with something special it’s the detail and on this occasion it’s the date, the very year I was born. Now the polite among you will not bother working out my age. But the rest of you...you didn’t think I got to look like this over night did you!

Things I’ve Learnt this week
1. Going through your old collections off stuff brings back some lovely memories.
2. Life is speeding by at a rate of knots and you forget sometimes to sit back and enjoy the moment.
3. Taking a photo of a coin to make it look interesting is a tough one.

Excellent shot, great light and textures and to think you've held onto that for sooo long!

Now that is special! The detail is great and that surface just really complements the image!

And 1956 is very special - same year as me :)

Great detail and textures on the shot, very well executed.

Wow that's one sharp image, I like it very much.

Excellent shot, I have to say I agree with the above comments, I love the texture across the face of the coin.

I can't believe you've still got it! My watch is from the same year I was born but that's a lot easier to keep safe! Very nice capture indeed

I know shillings, I'm glad to see you have the English version, I have a slot machine that takes them (not the one I used for History). Great story behind yours though

I love the texture of this shot and the contrast between the coin and the weave, how did you light it? I looks as if there is low angle light from the top (there is a feint shadow on the bottom of the coin).
