Sparrow's Photo 52 Week 15 - Wrong

Week 4 - Open
I photographed a bud on this orchid for week 2 - so this week's shot is a sort of follow on shot showing 'open' flowers :)

Week 4 - Open

Hi Joan,

Great picture again for open. Clear and beautiful flower.... My only suggestion... The background in White makes this picture a bit bland for me. Black on the other hand would have given it more focus and wow factor. Just my opinion tho! Xx

Hiya Joan,

Well done and what a great follow on from your week 2. I am so glad you decided to use this as your week 4 because I was curious to find out how the bud would look when open, so nicely timed.

What a gorgeous flower and you have captured it well to show its beauty. The background complements the image, and the composition is great. I like the way you have framed the image too.

Great photo!

Look forward to seeing what you do for week 5.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Hi, I missed your week's 2, 3 and 4 for some reason.

#2 and #4 are very clear and well focused. I think I'd like to see a bit more of the stem in #4.

#3, for me the missing left bit of the 'whatyamercallit' being missed spoils it slightly. Great reflections in the mirror and nice touch with the petals.

Cheers.

I like it too :) nice colours only slight crit (my taste) maybe a slightly darker background to let the flower stand out a bit ...but still a great shot

Thanks everyone.

I have to admit I went for the easiest option for the background. I did try out some other colours but had difficulty when it came to filling in the small spaces between the flowers so settled for the colour that matched the spaces:)

Nice idea to use the same model :thumb: I am a sucker for orchids, so love this, allthough I feel it could do with a little boost - more vibrance/light/brightness

Beautiful shot of the orchid. Pastel background works well. I will have to wait for my wifes orchid to flower so I can have a go.

Hi Joan, popping in to have a look at your photos as I've only just joined myself. They are all great, but I particularly like your 'Style' (very crisp, and lovely reflections!) and 'Open' photos. I have a week spot for Orchids!

Hi Joan,

:agree: The background thing is a personal one. Great pic, also really like the Orchid Bud.

Really like orchids and this is a first class picture of them. :)

Interesting to see someone keeping a theme going.

Background is OK for me as the flower itself is good without further clutter.

Thanks Col, Steve, Sanna, Ian and Sarah for taking the time to comment on my photographs - it is very much appreciated.

Magnificent beech tree - full of hard wood?

Nice shot but the subject is a little lost as I cannot see the wood for trees.:cuckoo:

good shot Joan that is one hellava tree ;)

Hi Joan, nice week 4 shot. Nice colours sharpness and composition. Well done.

Week 5, I like the subject but the photo seems a little too busy to me with lots of trees in the background?

Hiya Joan,

Indeed a lovely tree and well done for thinking this for your theme.

These are indeed very hard trees. I think the image is fine with the tree in the background because it adds scale to the size of the tree. I'm not sure if a slight crop would bring it closer in view. I like the whispy sky in the background too.

Well done

Cheers

Dawn :)

Thanks everyone for taking the time to take a look and comment - I have been preoccupied with other interests this week so I am sorry about my late reply.
I see what most of you are saying about the trees - it certainly would have looked better standing alone in a field but at the time it was the best I could come up with :). I seem to be chasing time at the moment but am determined to keep up with the 52 week challenge. A clue to what I have been doing will be in my 'clutter' contribution when I get round to getting the shot sorted:)

Hiya Joan,

Brilliant!!! I had a similar idea .... especially as my sewing box looks so similar. Why is it that the cotton reels never seem to stay in order? :D

Love everything about this photo, especially the colours!

Well done

I think this is one of your best yet!

Cheers

Dawn :)

Hi Joan, nice week 6. Great use of DOF and I like the composition. The only thing I don't like is the black frame. The fact that lots of the colours are quite dark colours along with the black frame makes the photo look darker than it actually is.

Thanks Dawn, Paul, Tina and Kaz.

Looking forward to seeing what is in store for us next week:)

Like the colours and DOF but not at all sure about the border! :exit:

like the colours, like the DOF and like the boarder!

Very nice!

Thanks Col and Ben your comments are much appreciated.
Mixed opinions on the border - don't think I will put one on this week

Again I like the photograph which agrees very well with the theme for the week:thumbs:

I am not too sure about the black background or possibly the subject is a little dark in itself to sit well upon it

Good thinking to have a delicate seedpod for the subject however.

Hi Joan,

I had been trying to figure out what these were at first. Indeed very delicate looking.

I think the dark background works well to bring the pods out better.

Well done

Cheers

Dawn :)

Thanks Col, Dawn and Michael - it is really useful to have the differing opinions it always make me look a bit closer at my shot which hopefully I will learn by

I had been trying to figure out what these were at first. Indeed very delicate looking.
They are clematis seed heads Dawn - but perhaps not as delicate as they look having survived such a cold winter  Tough little seed heads!

Hiya Joan,

This week has really brought out the creative side of many of the Photo52 participants, and more so with this, your work of art ..... I absolutely love it!!!

The colours, shapes, textures .... I could go on, but I am just lost for words.

There will be many who say .... yadah, yadah, yadah, this is not a photo, but at the end of the day you have obviously taken a photo of something and turned it into a masterpiece, so in my eyes that is photographic art. And I LOVE IT!!!!

So after all that, how did you come to this masterpiece? I am intrigued :D and very impressed.

I can't fault it in any way, even the border works perfect!

I'm in

Not to mention I am feeling the impact of the present chaos at the moment trying to keep up with my son's social life .... it is birthday party after birthday party at the moment (and costing a fortune!)

Cheers

Dawn :)
