weekly Sparrow's 52, 2016 -Week 38 and 39 metal reshoot and big added

Hi Liz

The pansies shot for Forgotten is definitely on theme, but is obviously lacking impact as a consequence of this! I think you've captured something that is the essence of the theme, but I wonder if getting closer into the thirsty flowers might yield a stronger shot? It feels like it needs something to draw the viewer in, in the absence of the bright colours you'd normally see from healthy flowers...

Hi Liz ... I agree about the nice DOF giving it a 3D effect. But I also agree about the lacking impact. o_O

Forgotten - they certainly look sad and forgotten I hope they were watered after you got your picture. I agree with the
others it does appear 3d in places.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I have fallen way behind this week and am playing catch up I really don't want to fail when so close to the half way mark!

Ooo I like the Stones Liz; lovely sheen on them and so colourful too - would make a great abstract to hang.

Love those shiny wet stones Liz, so many lovely colours in there, a good choice for Simple too, I like the processing, it doesn't look so harsh as stark black and white, just right.
Thanks Susie. :)

Thanks Carl. :)

I also love the colours and textures in stones Liz, shiny too :)

Hi Liz love the colours and refections of the wet stones very nice indeed.

And simple lovely details really like the reflections in the water droplets love the subtle tones too.

Two good uns. Clean wet colourful Stones, and that Simple wet little branch.

Hi Liz

Stone, definitely on theme and some good textures and interesting lighting there. Sharp and in focus, so does the job perfectly.

Simple, a really interesting image and conversion this... it's far more of a picture for me than stone (y) (which was still a good capture). Perfect choice of DOF and lighting which really contrasts the sharp, constrasty parts with the bits which aren't. Really nice!

Really like that and goes to show, a conversion doesn't have to be a nearly-mono B&W

Thanks Cobra:)

two nice shots for stone and simple
Thanks Allan:)

Liz, like both of these. favourite has to be the leaves really nice, tone, framing
Thanks Chris:)

Thanks again everyone for your kind comments just what I needed to spur me on:)

Trying to be topical but its not turned out quite as anticipated - when taking the shot I lined it up using the polling station sign so had to straighten it in photoshop, consequently losing the end of the Health Centre Sign!!

Hi Liz. I spotted the link between Polling and Health anyway so having the Centre totally in view is unnecessary. (Quite like the link to the waste bin too). Nice vivid colours in Re-shoot. Spot on themes. (y)

Yup, a fitting shot for Sign. And now we know what direction we're going in...

Abandoned reshoot is an interesting one. I think you need the wider shot you've taken to get the context. But as an image it is weaker because of the eye wandering around through the rest of the frame.

I think the problem is the background isn't empty enough. You're wanting to show the bike standing there in any empty space... but the space isn't empty. You have steps (which are probably the biggest challenge for me as they cut right through the bike), a wall, nettles, ooh a bag of something, etc. I think in an empty field (especially if shot just before sunset) this would be a cracker, but it really needs a quieter background for me.

Hi Liz ....I wondered if we would see 'that' sign .....very topical and on theme. I'm the opposite to Paul on Forgotten, before I read his comment I was already going to say how much I like the setting ......I like the way the bike almost melts into the surroundings ....love those steps.

Nice topical sign shot Liz, but I do rather like the concept and colours in abandoned

Hi Liz,

Stone - The use of wet pebbles makes the shot more contrasty than dry pebbles would have. It reminds me a bit of those shots of smarties or other coloured sweets. (y)
Simple - Nice and clear shot and works for the theme. I think I would have preferred colour though.
Sign - Don't you just hate those who put the sign up. You've got the verticals of the wall spot on, but because the sign was mounted crookedly it looks a bit wrong. You should have said that the crop on the Health Centre sign was a comment on forthcoming cuts ;)
Re-Shoot - Good idea, but as Paul says the image is a bit busy. You need to make the bike sand out more, maybe desaturate the background a bit (not fully) so the bike pops out a bit more?

Polling Centre Sign most topical, nicely shodilly fixed on red brick wall. Not sure if the Health Centre sign is OK cropped or not. o_O

I like the setting of the abandoned bike: stone steps, weeds & moss ... but I do agree with Paul @pjm1

stone - lovely variety of colours and textures
simple - nice simple shot I like the droplets
sign - very topical

Sign nice an simple works for the theme for me

Re-shoot Abandoned - Love the colours but I agree that it needs an uncluttered background

Thanks everyone for your kind and helpful comments. I am sorry I haven't been about for quite some time, things have conspired against me, but hoping to catch up over the next week or two:).

Catch up weeks 26 and 27

Emily our kitten was allowed out for the first time just a few days ago and she is certainly living up to the word 'active' once she got over the shock and awe of being out in the great unknown she is having a great time.

Hi Liz

It amazes me the different colours of the flower buds with hydrangeas, they look like candy ! good enough to eat !

We have just got two kittens and they are running 'wild' around the house ! Just waiting for the right theme ! :)

Love your image for Active Liz lovely colours and marking in Emily's fur I would love to see the look on her face!

Thanks Chris.
We have always been dog people until Emily and she has been quite an eye opener!!! 'Running wild around the house' sounds very familiar. We were assured that cats are easier than dogs so were pretty much unprepared for her crazy antics which always seem to reach dizzy heights in the evening, although I have to say this last week has been much quieter, she obviously tires herself out on her daytime trips outside and settles down in the evening to a good old snooze...bliss!
I am sure you will really enjoy your two I know I wouldn't be without Emily she is a little star and can alway be relied on to make us laugh. Looking forward to seeing photographs of your two I am sure you will be able to elbow them in :)

Thanks Mark, she is really enjoying her time outside while I stress about what she is up to LOL

Hi Liz ....really pretty lacecap hydrangea, that's a beautiful colour.

That's a smashing shot of Emily, lots of lovely detail in her fur, perfect for the theme.[/QUOTE

Thanks Susie
The hydrangea has flowered a little later than usual this year but is started to look pretty good now.

I expect Emily will feature more now that she is out and about.:)

Nice mini catch- up Liz. Both work really well for their respective themes but the image of Emily wrapping around that tree trunk is particularly well taken for Active.

lacecap hydrangea, eh ... we've got a lot of that in our garden at the moment, very nice.

and climbing cat ... nicely different cat image. (y)
