My web hosting service, via Cpanel has SpamAssassin, with a facility to blacklist any unwanted additional spam.

As my public E-mail address is configured via my hosting service, would SpamAssassin help me filter out any additional spam E-mails that are the bane of our lives (the Viagra/tax rebate/penis extension type).

Does anyone use it effectively, and are there any public domain blacklists that can help filter?

I have it set on mine, and it certainly blocks things like the viagra mails, not had one of those for many months now, without being overly officious and blocking genuine emails. Bank phishing emails still seem to get through though. Try it and see how you get on I guess.

At server level 'Mailscanner' with 'clamav' is very good but no good if you don't admin your own server - SpamAssassin can help or as an alternative direct your email through a Gmail account, their filtering is pretty good.

thought i did but just checked and its disabled, i just have a few manual rules set up..

trick is not to publish your email on your site but that kinda defeats the object (unless you use a contact form).
