To València.

What a waste of time and money. Can't be many of examples of changes of name that (in the written form) are so small.

According to Wiki (...), the official spelling is already València.. TBH, I thought this might have been an early April fool but a quick Google turned up the story in a Spanish paper.

The city is Valencia (which is how it is spelt in Spanish, the link attached to the wiki statement "officlally València" is just a list of demonyms in Valencian (as opposed to Spanish). The city name in Valencian is València, which is what it intends to call itself officially.

Pointless exercise!

Oh I am sorry Ruth! Thought it was an unusual story that might be of interest. Will run my next thread idea past you first next time.

Not necessary.... Honestly.

Valencian nationalists?

Google says ETA have killed 829 people to promote their Basque cultural values. I guess letting another group of nationalists fiddle with the name of a city might be an easy way to stop bombings.

I don't see the problem. If it's what the people of Valencia wanted, who are we to deny it?

Councils and Governments waste money all of the time so sadly this instance doesn't really surprise me all that much let's face it in Spain this is probably consider quite a minor folly in comparison to things like airports that are built without a market to use them
