weekly Spacester's 2013 52 thread: Week 8 - "Time"

I really like the level of detail in these shots Alan. You sure have an inventive mind :)

#2 & #3 are better in terms of colour, and #1 is better in terms of sharpness. I quite like your shooting angle in all of them although having the chainsaw wielding policeman as a clear point of focus in #1 probably edges it for me.

Looking forward to more instalments!

Ian.

That is great, really made me laugh - it reminds me of a where Wally :D

Hi guys

Feeling well enough today to get out with my camera, and luckily the snow was still down. I decided to experiment a bit with layers and multiple exposures. This is the first time I have tried to do a composite and it is a technique I am keen on learning some more about. Although I think I would have preferred a different shot, by the time that I had set up and took the first couple, my son had had enough of the snow and wanted to go get pizza :-)

Hi, Alan, you've done a decent job here. Looks nice and clean, and well processed. Nice colours and good light.

Not easy with kids but I prefer it if your sone was running in one single direction, with no deviations.

Cheers.

Thats a nice file 2gb! I like the image and the combination of the orange coat and snow i think gives it a little pop! I agree with Andy with regards to the direction. Well done on the processing tho! 2 hours is a bit of a session!

Great job - kids (and me) love things like that! Seems like it could do with a straighten - but I imaging (like me this week) you were glad to get the last layer done and get it uploaded.

I've had another go at photoshop :-) The only other one that he let me do, before he got too cold and uncooperative!

I thought using this 52 to experiment outside of my "normal" areas would be a good way to learn, so any feedback gratefully received!

My favourite of this is the edit in post 51 - looks like you have a line of identical childlren all following each other. A little small but think you have done an excellent job of merging them all, (I don't visit Flickr as if I did I would not have time to get anything else done or comment other pictures on the 52 threads :) )

Mine too.

Well done, I love all this crazy stuff. I have absolutely no idea how people do it, I just love looking at it and enjoy it

the last edits the better one but its still not quite straight clever bit of PP but not my kind of thing

your link back to here is not really working it just takes me to the pic so I have to then search for you again to comment

What's wrong with the link?

the link doesn't link back to the thread just the pics so there is no way of commenting unless i look for you in the forum try it and see

Oh, is there no reply button? I thought there was! I'll change it when I get my laptop back. Sorry!

I liked the original, kids are unpredictable an capricious and I thought that came through, I find the new one a bit too regimented.

I like a bit of futurism so this is right up my street, also I think his coat against the snow looks great. But I have to agree with Graham, if it were my image I'd have to get the verticals verticle! btw, at first I thought it was a multiple exposure, did you know that you can do that in camera on the D5100? less control but that's half the fun!

I've taken a look, and there is a link to the thread on the top right, and a "quote" button on the bottom right that you can use to directly make a comment. Both of these links will allow you to make a comment without searching for the thread manually. If I were simply to link to the thread, then you would have to scroll throng pages of comments (it's already most of the way through 2 pages, and it's only week 2).

How would you like me to link? Maybe put two links in next time, one to the photo and the other to the thread?

Thanks. The unpredictability is what I was looking for, and I was hoping to fill every area of the photo with him, but he did his own thing and I had no control, over it :-)

I didn't know that you could do multiple exposures on the d5100. I just did this on a tripod, burst firing as he ran, then loaded each shot into different layers and masked. The difficult bit was the hair! I will google now for the in-camera trick - thanks for the tip!

Hi, a little late but just wanted to say well done on your 'sin' image. Ingenious take on the theme.

I prefer the version in post #51, the original was a little too busy, his coat pops against the snow.. very nicely done!

my mistake

most people just link back to the page the pic is on in there thread

no need for the sarcasm really

thats ok there is no problem I didn't notice the the links my mistake

Hi Alan

hope you're feeling a it better .

I'd have no idea where to start with this type of image...very clever if a tad time consuming ...think I'm prefering the edited version...1st one was just too busy for me .Love the orange against the snow...really well done

ps....I have the same problem getting to your thread....the link under your photo in the photo only thread takes you to the image you've posted in your main thread...you can click " quote " but I think that incorporates your photo as well .

I have found a way round it though...top right hand of the shot is a line that reads...Thread: Spacester's 2013 52 thread: Week 2 - Season ...I click on that & it brings me to the main body of your thread.......simples

Hi guys

Firstly, sorry for taking so long about this. A totally insane work schedule followed by illness (two, at the same time, both requiring hospital treatment!) means I am waaaay behind. However, I managed to find some time to get some fairly basic photography done (nothing too experimental, which is kinda why I am doing this 52 - to extend the range of techniques and increase my creativity).

Week 3: Gravity

Week 4: Wild

Enjoy, and let's hope it all gets back on track!

Nice to have you back with us and hope your feeling better.

really like the gravity shot nice angle, not too sure about wild. Hope you are feeling better:thumbs:

I really like the gravity shot! Maybe try a tighter crop so you don't see the structure to the left? Nice work!

Limited time, I'm afraid, so quick comments...

Gravity and Wild are on theme, but if you hadn't been ill and busy I'd say they were a bit snapshotty.

Cheers.

Hi Alan

hope you're all recovered now mister

Like the angle & blue sky in Gravity...clone the lower thingy out & it'll work better I feel .

Wild....very abstract but on theme...little bit of blue sneaking in lower rh corner

Yes, feeling much better thanks. SPACE taken, just not PP. Have family staying, so finding time in evenings is tricky. Tomorrow I have an empty house (apart from the usual chaos of the two kids), so will be able to get some done :-)

Season.....I prefer the last edit as it's a little less busy than the first and the flow seems better.

Wild.........I like how the greens stand out as if they are almost metallic.

Gravity.......How close did you actually get, did you think of using a tripod and getting a little motion blur as she came forward or getting her dead centre. She stands out against a nice blue sky, I'd be tempted to clone out the roof at the bottom and the part of the structure bottom left in shadow.

Sorry for the late reply - I have put in a 90 hour week this week.

Foggy - your question on Gravity - I laid down on the ground underneath my daughter swinging. Tripods are a big no-no with my kids, especially in the play park. They simply run too quickly for me to follow them on a tripod :-)

Hi guys

After another horrendous couple of weeks at work, here is my next instalment. I had time to take the image before last Saturday, but simply no time to PP. Saturday I had my mum and dad to stay, plus the MIL and her partner here as well. Sunday I was driving to Oxford, and then the 90 hour week killed me. So here it is, PP'd this morning, in all its glory (or not as the case may be).

Hi, hard to crit someone who's worked a 70 hour week :D

Space bang on theme and some nice detail. The colours in the sky are nice but the dome thingy seems a tad blue?

Work, like it and I like the processing, nice tight photograph.

Cheers.
