Having been to florida twice to watch and photograph the space shuttle launches and failed twice due to bad weather or hurricanes, i have looked at maybe going to watch one of the last three missions before it's retired and they are may 14th,july 29th and the very last one on september 16th .Is there anyone else out there who wants to do the same ?:'(

MEEEEE, going to the 14th May launch with my brother, taking a 50-500 im borring off a friend doubt ill get anything good but going to say i have seen one (hope it goes up as my ex went to one 3/4times while over there for 3 months and never went up and me and my brother are only going for a week :|)

Don't want to sound like it's bragging, but I've seen two - one day, one night launch. I'd recommend booking a flight to arrive the day before - at least then, when the darned thing's delayed, you're able to chance it another day.

Watch the shuttle launch from Parrish Park, just off the max Brewer. We watched both from there - amazing view of both pads, and of the return runway. Search Google Maps for: Parrish Park, Titusville, Brevard, Florida 32796.

It's an awesome sight, one of those 'things to see before you die' moments. Put the camera on a tripod, hold the remote release in burst mode, but don't watch it through the viewfinder.... it's one of those things to see with your own eyes...

Thats exactly why i have to see one before it's too late .I hit the big 40 very soon and the wife has said she will pay for the flight so i really can't miss it ,,any toggers fancy coming for a week ?

I would love to go and see another launch, I've seen a night time rocket and a daytime shuttle launch, both awesome.

I was looking at the same thing today after reading in the news about the last launch yesterday...

I would like to go but not sure if it's within my budget...

I would love to see a launch. What an incredible piece of engineering.

Cheesy

Won't be making a special visit for it.
I have been in Florida three times at the same time as a planned shuttle launch. The first two were postponed long enough for me to have got back home. The third time I saw the launch thanks to people stood staring behind me on the beach outside my hotel when returning from an early morning walk. Camera was in the room along with my phone containing a missed message telling me the shuttle was launching :shake:

Yeah the second time i went to watch it it was postponed to the day i was flying back home so later i found out it launched as i was just 2hrs into my flight home :'(

I've been thinking about going over to try and catch one of the last launches, as it's something I'd love to see. I'll have to have a look if I've enough pennies in the piggy bank.

Dave

I am heading out there for the last one 16th Sept......hoping it will be 11th time lucky.......arriving on the 14th and leaving on the 28th so if it is delayed should be there for the re-launch........

I am also taking my 50-500 specifically for it as well

I'm flying out on 12th May so will be the for the next one hopefully, can't wait! Have seen a day and a night launch before and it is aaawwwwwsome! Definitely and experience to remember.

What's the cost roughly.. to get over there and stay for a week?

I've been looking into it and flights are around £400-450 mark ,car hire starts from £130 a week inc insurance and hotel/motels are around £30-45 a night so you would need to budget £1000 for the week ;)

So far it's just me that can go (wife has limited hols and we are back in florida in nov) and if any members on here are in the same boat then maybe something can be arranged for a weeks trip ??:

Hi Mark ,which date are you going on ?

The next one.
Date: May 14 +
Mission: STS-132
Launch Vehicle: Space Shuttle Atlantis
Launch Site: Kennedy Space Center - Launch Pad 39A
Launch Time: 2:28 p.m. EDT

Still waiting to get tickets, but I suppose with 800mm that won't be so critical.

You can park up anywhere nr the indian river in titusville and you will get a decent viewpoint .Tickets are very limited and you are around 3 miles away at the veiwing platform .

My sister lives in florida and watched it from her garden the other day. lucky mare.

We got a villa with pool, flights and intermediate car hire for £1600 (for 2 for 2 weeks). Villa via flexibletrips.com, Thomas Cook flights and Alamo.

Something i'd love to see but never be able to afford it :-(
unless some one needs an assistant ;-)

Does anyone know when the current shuttle mission is due back?

God I'd love to go.... I remember watching Columbia coming home that first time when I was a youngster.... unfortuntly I dont think I will be able to :(

End of an era and nothing to follow it up except reusable rockets..... a bit like concord vs 747..... just not the same.

Thanks, we finally found it - sunday 18th.

Seeing a space shuttle launch must be an amazing sight. I would love to see one but funds cant allow it.

Yeah ,funds are tight with me also but it's one thing i gotta see before it's gone for good and i think it'll be worth the money ;)

Yeah, same here. One of those things that if I don't try to see before it's retired, I'll kick myself for it forever after.

looks like the july launch has been put off till mid november according to the nasa site ,that suits me just fine and dandy as we as a family where planning to go then anyway !! Good times ;-)
