A Space Probe has just landed on a Comet and has just started beaming pictures back, so far a Washing Machine, two Televisions and a Microwave Oven have been spotted, as well as old carpets bits of wood and bricks and a copy of the Daily Mail

Patrick Moore would have loved this.

I find it amazing that it's possible to communicate with and control something 300,000,000 miles away.

Steve.

and the moomins are complaining about illegal immigrants .:runaway:

Not bad fuel economy 6.4 BILLION miles kilometres on 1,670Kg of fuel!!

If anyone has the National Geographic channel, they are showing a repeat of their hour long programme - Rosetta: Comet landing, tomorrow at 10PM, it is also available 'On Demand'. I found it fascinating and incredible.

It is a great achievement and the coverage from ESA has been excellent.

it's amazing how they did it... basically spun it around the earth a few times to build up the speed using gravity to accelerate it, then released it out into space. Hitting the asteroid is pretty much the same as asking a hammer thrower to pick the specific blade of grass on the 92.4metre point of the arena and land the hammer on it...

if I had been in charge of the mission to the comet I would have anticipated battery capacity problems, and dispatched the Duracell Bunny to help with the landing
