Hi everyone!

I've probably left it much too late to post this but oh well,

I'm going on my hols on thursday to sunny South Africa!

We'll be going on safari and visiting various touristy places.

Does anyone have any tips that could help me with my photos?
Like settings on the camera, different techniques etc.

I use a Nikon D60 with an 18-55mm VR lens and a 55-200mm VR lens if this is any help?
I'm also fairly amature with photography at the moment.

thanks a lot in advance,
Andy

I am too an amateur photographer but when I went to South Africa... I got into a bit of trouble with my lens changing.

I flooded this board with cries for help, and all the guys were really great!

The only advice I can give you is... don't change your lens in anywhere dusty! Try and do it when no-one else is in the car, or in a clean room somewhere that not many people are walking around in... Always try and change the lens with the camera facing down (maybe someone else can give more tips?)
I got dust in mine, and didn't realise until 600 photos later... I was uploading them onto the computer :(

It really isn't the end of the world (although I thought it was!). If it does happen to you, don't let it spoil the holiday!

Just remember to take your rocket blower with you!

Top tip: Don't be waving your cam around like you would on a Sunday stroll over here. You'll be relieved of it pretty smartly.Especially in some of the crowded touristy areas.

Indeed!

We are not bad but practical common sense will take you a long way. Carry your kit in bags that do not shout "EXPENSIVE CAMERA GEAR" and please do not leave valuables in plain view in an unattended car. You would not do that in any big city center, so please do not do it here...;)

Care to share your itinerary?

Thanks for the advice :)

i'm not 100% sure of our itinerary at the moment, but i'll try and post later.

cheers

Just use common sense and enjoy yourself, I cant wait to go back, either working or on hols
