Yes
When I was younger I remember enjoying some dried apricots that weren't squidgy like the ones I find today.

They were very dry indeed and had a sour-ish taste - almost like a Haribo Sour-mix flavour.

Anyone got any idea whether I can get some these days?

Health food shop?

You want the ones that are not "ready to eat" and should be cheaper!

Cookery shelves of a supermarket probably. In with currants, sultanas etc.

Off a barrow beside Chania old harbour in Crete! Didn't' half make me pucker since I was expecting a sweet one!

I'll have to have another look, but the ones I remember used to be all sort of shrivelled up and hard, not the squishy affairs I normally eat now!

If you have any "international" food shops close by, then they can be a source of interesting foods, such as sour apricots and the like. We have managed to find sour cherry dried paste from Iran, which is quite chewy but really good.

Do dried/ready to eat apricots not trigger a severe case of the squirts when you have them? I avoid them for this reason.

Not so as you would notice. They are no different to fresh fruit in this regard.

'Consider one apricot in a basket of them.
It is very much like all the other apricots--
an individual already - skin and seed.
A child is born and doesn't know what day it is.
The particular joy in my heart she cannot imagine.
The taste of apricots is in store for her'
