Sound trigger for flash?

Does anyone know where I can get something like this, but from a UK seller?

I feel an urge to try something new...

You may be right. My problem is that I'm too thick to actually make anything like this myself....

nor if they're surface mount IC's

no big issue with buying from the states on ebay... if not a bit of soldering would probably make you one from a maplins kit... (goes to look)

I was just going to suggest it was something that you might be able to cobble together for Garry.......make me one whilst you're at it.....here's a tenner :D
 
:thinking: ok, this might just be a dead end and a figment of my imagination, but there was a member here that was creating water droplet shots using sound - basically a rubber membrane stretched across a speaker unit with the liquid on/in it. the sudden turning on of the speaker at whopping volume created the movement of the liquid, but I seem to vaguely recall that the sound also triggered the shutter [this is the bit i am not sure of my own mind on], so the timing was spot on. It was home set up, totally self engineered, might be worth a hunt round with the search function. :shrug:

I'm not in a rush, it's just something that I've wanted to try for a while.
My reason for not wanting to buy from the States is that the last time I bought something from there (similar price) I had to pay an extra £35 for customs duty etc
 
justdavedotnet is supposedly working on a sound trigger.

cheers for the link dogfish but I have a VERY strong dislike of breadboard, we had 3 full breadboards daisy chained in a lab this morning - and every connection was loose or needed prodding YARG

wow, you have a good memory...and I am lazy! sorry, yeah, I've got all the parts kicking about, parts cost is about 85p iirc, I haven't been able to as I left a couple of parts at my parent's house, but going there in a couple days time...might breadboard it quickly together and see if I can get anything working :)
 
I built one of these, with a circuit designed by myself, gone for optical and sound, using a PIC micro, welcome to the GERBER PCB layout and circuit diagram.

£1,750 plus VAT = sorted :thumbs:

And gives me plenty of pennies to pay someone to do it too - cos I'm the ultimate numpty at DIY :D

Good to see that someone even as old as you wants to try something new :p Looking forward to the results

Sorry to bump this old thread but...

I'm still hoping that some kind soul will volunteer to make one for me, if I can't buy one within the UK.

I'm sure that they're very easy to make, but I'm incapable:'(
I'm happy to pay of course.
 
I have made one in the past - off on holiday for a week today but when I return im sure we can sort something out.

Cost about £16 in total to build.

MAPLINS is my second home, but I have never seen a kit advertised. I admit that all the parts were purchased at MAPLINS. The case being the dearest (£4) I gave thought to how to build it, printed circuit or strip board. Strip board is a non starter. The circuit was published many moons ago, before digital was thought of.

They used to do a kit many years ago, but it seems to have been discontinued some time back.

That design works pretty well. I built one on breadboard, but the dog decided to have a chew on it before I got to use it for anything beyond testing. :( I need to get round to making another.

Link for the HiViz kits, this is the sound trigger, but there are also photogate triggers that activate the flash when something passes through the gate.

Kits are complete, simple to assemble (no soldering), and arrived quickly.

Reading the "HIVIZ" adverts, I find them a bit dodgy. Someone did post about using breadboards,which I agree. The wires would soon drop out. As I mentioned before the piezzo acting as a microphone is very poor. their video trigger is laughable.
