My daughter will be starting an A level photography course this week at school and, of course, needs a camera, yesterday!
Requirements are a film SLR with lens!! The paperwork she has doesnt go into any more detail.....
I assume something like a 50mm lens would be suitable, can anyone recommend a suitable set up?
Its been years since my film days ( I had a Canon:gag: EOS1000f, I think) so dont know whats available to buy anymore.
All help gratefully accepted.

Something cheap of eBay, if she has a DSLR something that uses the same lenses (if possible) would be good, or an old manual camera with lens, they can be had for well under £50 on eBay...

I have an old Canon EOS 650 body that's going spare - it doesn't have a lens, hasn't been used for about 10 years and the battery is flat, but it's yours if you want it! Comes with manual and flat battery so you know what kind it needs :)

get her a cheap nikon film body (with a kit zoom or nifty 50) and she can use you lenses on it when required. I wouldn't get an old fully manual job as it will probably drive her mad. I have a cheap EOS 300 film body that I use along side my 30D it cost me £10 and takes lovely pics with my decent glass and a good quality film.

Thats what I am afraid if ;)
I thought about something like a Praktica MTL5 or b100, there is one on the for sale forum which looks ideal, with lenses. I will probably go for that.

Looks like she will be using a Nikon F70. My Dad offered her his and a couple of lenses.
Thanks for all your suggestions, i just hope this camera will be ok with the school.

If you are going for a Praktica MTL try to get a MTL5B or a MTL50, they take a more readily available battery than the MTL5.

i do a leval photography and a nikon f70 will be fine. they arent fussy aslong as it is possible to shoot manual and runs 35mm format film.

I had an MTL5, and as you say, the battery is not the easiest to get hold of. I believe it is a mercury battery and my local camera shop had a few around. I think you would only ever get one from an established camera specialist.
I can just imagine the reaction you would get from somewhere like Jessops!
Anyway, we now have a Nikon F70, so its all systems go.
Now, how do you turn it on...........:naughty:
