Ilford FP4, HP5, these are what I used to use, however, I have spoken to firstcall photography who advised a person like me, poor, to try

Ilford Pan400 and Pan 100.

Also Champion developer.

Has anyone any comments please, yes I am told it is what schools use, and that for the best you should use FP4 and HP5 but, will I see any real difference apart from half the price.

Personally I never liked HP5 and always chose Tri-X although I always picked FP4 and Pan F for the slower films.

Tri X from 7dayshop.com is £3.79 36x35mm and £3.69 120, or cheaper if you buy more than one roll.

Yes but I am speaking about 30m rolls to bulk load, sorry.
 
Most bulk load rolls are almost as expensive, and sometimes more expensive, than the individual roll counterparts. It used to be a good way of economising, but nowadays a lot less so...

You might be able to order a bulk roll of something like Fomapan 100?

I've been bulk loading Adox CHS 100 for about six months now, and generally pretty happy with it aside from some developing problems which appear to be entirely due to my own stupidty anyway.

Still looking for a cheaper alternative to HP5 though, without luck.
 
No idea, I don't think I've actually ever tried it but at that price I think I will, cheers!

I couldn't believe the price, according to the woman there she has no idea of any difference, and said that it is used by most schools and Colleges, and to be honest if made by Ilford, that is good enough for me.
