Yes
But I'm rather pleased with myself as I've just scored a new job :woot: :woot:

I'm gonna be working for a company that does outsourcing for estate agents. Job basically involves going into clients houses, photographing them and the grounds, drawing up floor plans then sending the lot off to the repro dept at the end of the day. They then give the agents a link to a proofing site so they can pick photos and layouts, they then produce a rather nice brochure for each property. they also do virtual tours although not many agents use them for that.

So no more petrol station work for me!

I'm well pleased as this has basically come at the end of a very bleak period for me that has lasted about 2 years and has involved relationship woes, a rather nasty health problem, some mentalist issues and having to give up a job I loved due to ill health.

Oh, and it pays rather well too!

Sorry to be a bit self promoting but I thought I'd share it with you as 6 months ago I was getting pretty low and I hope this is an example of how things can turn around in a couple of weeks, even when you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Peace.

congrats. I know how crappy & depressing it is being out of work. it was 3 years for me :(

Well done Spencer!! :thumb:

Congratualtions gandhi, thats great news :thumb:

It sounds like a interesting job too, different places, meeting new people each day and some photography thrown in for good measure :)

Good for you Ghandi! Glad to hear that things are turning around for you. All the best to you and good luck on the new job! :thumb:

Cheers,

jules :)

Promote away Spencer.

I was out of work for 18 months when I first relocated to Scotland and it was quite soul destroying putting in a full days job hunting every day to no avail.

I wanted to shout it from the rooftops when I landed a good job before the local job centre got to stitch me up with a demeaning one.

Well done mate!

....aaaaaannnnndd you get to post the horrors of the DIY travesty that people inflict on their homes in the name of Changing Rooms!!!! Heh heh!

Nice one mate. :)

Fantastic stuff - don't apologise for being happy.... Congratulations :)

Cheers guys and gals. I'm currently chuffed to bits. Where I come from, it's known as a 'big c**k day' (mods please delete if this too offensive)

I forgot to mention. Recently had my photo's accepted by Alamy too. Not that it means much until I sell any, but hey, it's all gravy!

Many congratulations dude :)

Best of luck with the new job

well done Spence! i hope that nasty health problem didnt involve itching, and has all cleared up now.

heres wishing you great success!

Yes, congratulations, hope it all works out great

Congrats!
Glad to hear things are on the up for you.
A job where you get to play with your equipment and nosey around other peeps property sounds pretty ideal to me!

nice one :thumb:

great to see you get to do some photography in there too :)

Good on ya Spencer.....now remember to convert all shots to Mono.....the Customer is wrong that colour is better ;)
Seriously though , start to get used to HDR, as that would wipe the floor with others shots in the business.

congratulations Spencer, glad things are working out for you, best of luck with the new job :thumb:

I could have sworn I've already posted....:Ponders: oh well, here we go again. Well done mate, well chuffed for you. Sorry it's belated. :thumb:

regards

Thats fantastic news....Well done and photography to boot, you must be well chuffed. :woot:

Nice one Ghandi :thumb:

Yes, now I've just got to go and shell out a load of cash on Dslr, lenses, flashgun etc. oh well, was gonna do it sooner or later anyway!

I'm hoping it isn't gonna kill my passion shooting for a living, but at the end of the day it's pretty basic stuff you could train most people to do. Light, bright and upright as I'm sure Rob said.

But yeah, working from home is good for me and I might meet some interesting people, better than the freaks and weirdos who hang around my filling station anyway!

Not sure about the ethics of posting peoples interiors on here but If I find any Hooners then the temptation may prove too much!

Thanks for all your kind comments though, Just one of the things that makes this forum such a lovely place to hang-out. Peace and love to you all!

Ethics...they invited you into their home to take pictures to show people ;) Admittedly it is with the intention of selling their house but you never know, someone from here could be interested ;)

You know that you have too :D

Huge huge congrats.

It sounds bloody brilliant. You may find an element of shooting every day dulling your passion to get the camera out in your own time but there will still be plenty of times where inspiration grabs you. It's certainly not something to fret about (not to say you were) and you will become a much better snapper.

If you get stuck for any equipment in the early days, give me a shout. Would be a good excuse to arrange a

Many congratulations. Really sounds like you have landed on your feet :)

So now you are going to be doing it professionally, what are you thinking about buying?

Something wide I'm betting:

"Yes, it did look a lot bigger in the photographs didn't it, but I assure you 6'x4' is often considered a spacious double room sir...."

Congratulations Gandhi, hope it all works out well for you:thumb:

Actually Agents can't use wide angles now, as it doesn't give a true indication of the size of rooms, gardens etc. Not sure what the min focal length is

Thanks for the offer sir! Much appreciated and I wont forget your generosity!

I'm pretty sorted for gear now, although youcan never have too many beers! I'll be in touch about that one once things settle down a bit ;) Will be using a D70 (2nd hand from a mate) Sigma 10-20mm (it's what I've been told to get, ordering on thursday), SB600 and a decent tripod that's gonna handle being used everyday, that last item I'm a bit unsure of so would like some recommendations peeps if poss please?

It's not gonna get too abused so I reckon the nikon will do until I can afford a 'proper' camera ;)

Thanks for the support and comments guys and I'll let ya know how I get on when I start the week after Next!

I'm a big fan of manfrotto/bogen stuff but as long as it can get up high, go down low and not move with the camera on, you'll be fine.

The important part is which head you choose. The grip release ball heads are very popular right now and I love mine for certain stuff but I'd steer clear of those if it was me. For this sort of work something that allows independent movment on each plane is invaluable. Working in small interiors with very wide lenses means keeping the camera absolutley level is essential if you want to avoid distortion.

I've always thought that the difference between mearly good shots and great ones in this field is in attention to the finest detail. With a good head on your tripod you can make fine adjustments to the framming without upsetting the level each time.

Good point. I hadn't even thought about that one. I'm quite liking the look of the manfrotto neotec c/f jobbie. Not sure if my budget will stretch quite that far though! I'll have to have a word with the *cough* finance dept. ;)

If you scout around alot of places do 'Kits' ie head and legs. I paid £95 for my 190DB + RC2390, this idea may be useful to you, may also be some bargins around this weekend too with it being easter. I would rec. Manfrotto built like brick ****houses.

yep, that'll be the one!

or at least I think so as it doesn't mention the company I'm working for directly, that is basically my job spec.

The branch I'm working for is one of the busier ones as Bath is a VERY desirable place for property.

I'm ok with it all and that basically sums up what was my interview, :)
