As said in another thread I am looking at getting an ND grad kit.
Looking at the Cokin P system it says it may cause vignette at less than 24mm.

I will be using it mostly on my kit lens, 17-55,
Anybody used them at less than 24mm ???
Did it cause vignette ???

Should I spend the extra money and buy the X system ???

In my, very basic, knowledge it will only vignette at wider angles. For example, a guy in my local Jacobs told me the P system holder vignettes at 10mm, but not at 12mm. How true this is, I don't know.

p.s. I bought a used holder in the Classifieds here, and then am buying better quality Hitech filters to go in them

He's right very little if any vignetting at 12mm.
