Sop!

Any oldies here remember 'sop'?

I was dunking a digestive biscuit in my tea this morning when a piece broke off and fell into the cup - had to fish it out with a spoon. It suddenly reminded me of something we used to call 'sop' in the late 40s/early 50s - bits of bread dropped into a cup of tea. In my case with plenty of sugar! I asked my wife if she had heard of it. She told me she used to have it and put cheese in it!

We used to do this. White bread, torn up into pieces, put into a bowl of hot milk and add sugar to it. Did it if we wanted to eat something simple, especially if we were unwell with coughs and colds etc
