I tried the pixel shift with my new Sony A7R3 camera. I didn't really know what to expect, but I was quite impressed. The colour is really a lot better, and it wasn't to bad to start with. Unfortunately it will only work with completely still subjects. Here are two sample photos. Both of the pictures have exactly the same post processing.

I was aware this was a way to increase resolution but wasn’t aware it offered better colour rendition. I think the tech is still quite early on and perhaps the mighty sr3 doesn’t even need to increase its resolution but it could be good for some applications.

It has the possibility to use the Bayer filter information in a different way. Olympus have been tweaking it for some time. And can cope well with small movements in foliage. I expect some more advances coming up.
 
It would seem that this doesn't increase the resolution by a lot. Whatever increase is there is hard to see for normal sized photos. But it does seem to increase the colour depth significantly and that can be noticed even at small size. Since I do not have a test lab I cannot make any pronouncement about how good it is or isn't, but it has surprised me so far. There is a slight possibility that somehow I have got things wrong, but I have checked the process and it seems ok, but I do know that confusing colour spaces can have a dramatic effect on colour.
 
After a few more tests it would seem that there is always an increase in resolution, though probably not noticeable in most photos. The increase in colour depth is only noticeable in photos with great depth of colour already. Very curious
 
Must admit I have had Pixel shift on my Pentax K-3II for years and more recently on my K-1 but have never used it as I am not a great fan of tripods (infact I hate them with a vengence). Have to say though that the pixel shift crop does look better so perhaps I should source myself a lightweight tripod rather than the bloody great lump I bought to support my larger lenses and give it a shot.
