Sony RX Series United Thread (Any RX Camera)

Post-dinner so about 20:00 photo across Brixham harbour last week. RX100 VII, JPG cropped to 16:9, shadows lifted a very small amount.

One from last week. I don't normally get many pics from behind the batter, but luckily had the scene framed well enough to get the wicket keeper too. :) And yes, he did catch it. ;)

I have more frames in the sequence continuing the catch (thank you RX100VII 20 fps :D), but like this frame showing the ball.

Another very nice candid street style capture Malc, all blends together nicely.

"Once again sorry for the late reply, I really must look at this thread more often especially as I created it in the first instance"

I'd love an update to my RX100 VII. I'd happily accept a slightly larger body if it could accommodate a hotshoe with Sony's propriety Multi interface shoe, shoots up to 4K 60P, in 10 bit 422 with the S-Cinetone profile, has the AF AI chip from the bigger models for state of the art AF subject tracking, Better IBIS, a higher resolution rear screen, slightly bigger (capacity) battery, a small grip built into the body (rather than having to purchase aftermarket), slightly better image quality at high ISO and finally a slightly faster lens (even if that means sacrificing a little of the tele end - say 24-135), perhaps F2-F3.5. As you can see, I don't want much :ROFLMAO:

Trouble is, given the price of the current RX100 models, an RX100 VIII would probably cost £1500 putting it in to direct competition pricewise with the Fuji X100 series, which obviously has a much larger sensor, even if it is a fixed lens (I'd personally still prefer an RX100 over the X100 though).

Here's a question for you all. In a few weeks I'm taking the wife and our best friends to the eternal city (Rome) for a week to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and their 40th. With so much to see, but with pick pockets etc apparently quite frequent around the major sites etc. I'm debating forgoing my larger Sony A6700 and a couple of lenses, and taking the RX100 VII along with my Osmo Pocket 3 only all in a small Peak Design 3L bag, with the RX100 (and my iPhone 13 Pro), being the only cameras.

Trouble is as this is Rome, whilst the RX will no doubt deliver some good images (with all the video on the Osmo Pocket), and will be a doddle to carry, I have this nagging feeling that the A6700 is the way to go (with the 10-20 PZ, 18-135 and 15mm F1.4 lenses. This will be probably a once in a lifetime trip and I don't want to come back wishing I'd taken the right camera. Anyone any thoughts ? Am I mad ?

I always take the best camera I can to places like this, because that is the reason I am going, to get the pics. ;) It may not be as high a priority on a holiday with friends. I have no friends and go alone. :$

As with any big city, pickpockets should taken as a given hazard sadly, but common sense is normally enough to see you OK. I've never had any problems, but I have seen people get pick-pocketed on trains a couple of times, one successful, one not. Have no zips open on bags, and any pockets on clothes closed/zipped, and nothing of value less than 2 layers deep in bags or clothes. Be very careful/aware, in confined spaces with lots of people.

I also have the compact camera with me too of course. ;) I was in Venice a couple of weeks ago, and a few of the best pics are with the RX100M7 rather than the DSLR I had. I was on the boat on the Grand Canal after being out since 4am, and just chilling using the Sony, after mentally switching off with the bigger camera, and the light after sunrise was lovely, and being able to zoom in and out to anything that caught my eye was really enjoyable. :)

@Sootchucker - my go to travel (abroad) camera is my RX100vi. Bought specifically for that purpose. IQ good enough for me, decent zoom, small enough to fit in a pocket with spare batteries. It’s coming to Corfu with me next week, and I’ve used it in Rome too.

Can you help please?
I can’t find my manual for the RX100 VI, can I use a remote release with my 100? I can only find a microphone socket :(

The short answer to that Jak, is YES.

"I've done it many moons ago but I have no idea where my release is these days to give it another go"

Ah I see now, I need a Sony remote, a RM VPR1.

Excellent processing, George; at least they weren't on their phones as well as carrying their coffees! I also like the open door, which they are resisting entering.

Thanks Malc, much appreciated.
