Sony or Sigma 30mm?

Yes
I'm finding my Sony 50mm for the A6000 is too long for indoor family shots and the kit lens doesn't cut it so I'm wondering if a 35mm or 30mm would be a good choice, which would be around the 50mm full frame equivalent on this cropped sensor camera?

I'm not looking to spend much though as it's just for leisure and was initially looking at the Sony 35mm but the Sigma 30mm gets good reviews and although it's only 2.8 compared to the Sony 1.8 and also doesn't have optical stability unlike the Sony, I find that due to the speed of the children the shallow 1.8 can be hard to nail with my 50mm so could have the same issue with the Sony 35mm.

Is the Sigma any good?

Sorry, title should have said Sigma 30mm

The sigma art 1.8 is stunning

I use the Sigma 30mm 2.8 on micro four thirds and its perfectly fine. Wish it would be a tad faster like f/2 or so. But it's really good at 2.8

I'd personally go wider again for indoors. Go with the sigma 20mm which is about the same focal length as most phones which I think suits shooting the kids indoors. I have a 27mm for my Fuji which I'll be replacing with a 23mm

Was thinking about wider but I do a mix of slightly more portrait also so the 20mm may be a little too wide and not give enough compress. I'm hoping the 30mm is a happy medium between the 20 and 50mm,

Been looking at the Sigma 30mm 1.4 also and although it has some negatives I'm starting to seriously consider it.

Would love to get their master lenses but can't justify the price for casual use as we have lots more to add to the house which takes priority and isn't cheap.

Decided to go for the Sigma 1.4, I was a little worried about focussing speed etc but then I remembered about the A6000 auto eye focus system so I'll see how it performs with that.

It arrived today and I was bewildered as to why it came with a complimentary box of plasters. Then I took a couple of test shots.
