Yes
I know the lenses are an issue but I have been reading really good reviews about its IQ and functionality.

I currently have a D90 and a D7000 (need to sell one of them!) and I only really use two lenses on them 95% of the time - a 35mm 1.8 and the 18-105. Also have a 12-24 but I hardly use it. I take a lot of my pictures indoors in the evening with my 35mm.

I am quite keen on the smaller size of the NEX 7. Can it effectively replace my D7000? What are the pro and cons?

All advice appreciated.

I'd say the main cons (but this is from using the nex5 not the 7 I'll add) is speed of function and AF, otherwise they are excellent cameras with a lovely sensor.

Not sure about accessories, ie ND filters etc mind you.

Jim, out of interest, are you running the latest firmware for the 5n? I saw a video the other day which wasn't entirely convincing, but seemed to suggest that the latest fw improves AF acquisition somewhat.

I saw one in jessops the other day,so i had a little play, for me no i wouldnt replace my DSLR kit for one.

It's not mine so I'm not sure which FW it's running but it wouldn't surprise me if they have tweaked it. I still can't imagine it being anywhere near a DSLR with a 70-200 etc though, but as long as you don't intend shoot sports I can't see it being an issue.

I have a Sony Nex-5 and a nice little collection of Legacy Lenses bought for pocket money on Fleabay from makers in Japan, Russia and East Germany, mainly fixed primes ranging from 16mm to 200mm, all from highly rated companies, Minolta, Pentax, Carl Zeiss, Jupiter, Industar, some are Rangefinder some are SLR Lenses, this Camera can accept any Lens ever made from any Camera, so if you have a small collection right now they can be used in manual function.

If speed of Focus is of importance to you, read up on "Focus Peaking" function on these Cameras. I'm not sure what leads you to say "I know the Lenses are an issue"

I have never enjoyed my photography so much since buying a Mirrorless Camera.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

I have been reading up on the NEX series including several reviews. one reviewer actually thought that the NEX5N had better ISO performance than the NEX7 - rather disappointing to be honest given the price difference between the two cameras. I know the NEX7 has an EVF and more manual controls but I would have thought the opposite would be true on ISO performance given the NEX7 has the same sensor as the Sony ALT77 DSLR.

The Sony A77 is not the leader when it comes to high ISO performance on crop cameras, so it should be not massive surprise that the Nex-7 doesn't run away with the high ISO king title (even though it doesn't have a translucent mirror to get in the way). It's not surprising though, given the ridiculous number of MP Sony have squeezed onto that sensor!

When scaled down, images don't look far off that of the 5N.

If you primarily use AF lenses than wait a bit longer before switching. Sony NEX native lenses are a bit pricey at the moment compared to competitors. I hardly use canon 30d these days as I only have manual focus lenses and NEX is very compact and easy to use with them. Awaiting tomorrow Zeiss ZM 28/2.8 I won on ebay recently! :) Will try it on NEX very soon.

I have a NEX 7 with the 18-200 Sony zoom. I bought it to replace my backup 7d. I normally use a 5d mk2 and find the controls and general operation to be extremely intuitive. The larger body design helps in that respect. The NXT 7 is used when I don't want to lug the 5d about. I didn't want to compromise with quality, so the NEX 7 was the perfect choice for me. Unfortunately the 7d must go, but it answered your question!

The big thing is,how much action can theses cameras can take,in day to day use, whetherproofing, taking the knocks.

Don't get me wrong,I like mirrorless cameras, but under heavy use ?,I still think I would Perfer to have my DSLR :)
