Hi, just back from a week in the sun and had a real struggle with my Nex5n in bright sunlight. So it has me considering the Sony FDA-EV1S viewfinder. Has anyone got one or used one that could give their opinion of it. Unfortunately Nex 6/7 out of budget . Any opinions welcome. Thanks

SLR hut is selling the 6 for £440 inc VAT, £14.95 postage.

It may be worth selling the 5 considering the cost of the viewfinder...

The cost of the viewfinder is high I agree. Watching ebay for used ones at the moment.

u could get the dslr video style eyepiece thing for waaay cheaper

You wont be disappointed, got one a few weeks back it's a great camera, the EVF really does make a difference.

Cost of viewfinder + sale price of Nex 5 = price of Nex 6

The built in viewfinder is a much better solution, the stick on ones are such a clumsy solution. You also get PDAF or does the Nex 5N have that anyway?

Thanks for the replies everyone. Looks like I need to do a bit of saving for the 6 then. Ernesto I think the 5n has cdaf but not completely sure., is pdaf better?

Realistically you'll get £250 for a used 5n, maybe a bit more on a good day on the bay.
Viewfinder is £209, they don't come up second hand very often.

A new 6 is £459...

I have a Nex-3n and although miss the viewfinder - if I had the money I'd have a 6 in a shot! - two tips to make life soo much easier. Brightness turned up on the lcd, setting it to "sunny daylight". When its still difficult due to sun in your eyes/etc, I just flip the screen horizontal and hold the camera at waist level. Et voila I can see it. Not totally ideal but cheap :)

I have the FDA EV1M, which of course is for the RX1 and the RX100M2 only, as far as I know, so not precisely what this thread is concerned with. However it and the EV1S are essentially identical, and my experience of the xxxM is that it functions beautifully, with an amazingly clear, (and non-laggy) picture. I mainly stuck to the main screen for indoors work, or outdoors if it was not bright, but in bright conditions this really comes into its own and lets you compose your picture and see exactly what settings you are on. Expensive, but I never regretted buying mine- it really expands the functionality of the camera.
