Just would like to get advice on this flash from people on here. I have reserved it at a very good price compared to other prices on the net.

I would like to know if Its worth getting? I'm not a pro and just want a flash that is better than the in camera flash. Something to make my photos that little bit better.

It seems pretty basic but it has bounce capability and is compact.

Here is a link

Cheers

As a main hot shot flash, I would give this a miss and save up for the HVL-F42am. The 20 just isn't powerful enough, and it was bought out mainly due to act as a flash controller for the A850/A900.

The 20 is intended primarily for the A850 and A900 (which do not have a built in 'pop up' flash) and then not primarily as an actual flash unit, but as a way of triggering other remote Sony flashguns.

It is better then the pop-up on the A300, but not by much (though it does have a bounce option).

As a basic flash the Jessops own-brand flash http://www.jessops.com/online.store/products/75165/show.html is a lot more powerful and offers both swivel and tilt - but will not work as a wireless flash (neither does the Sony 20).

For a similar price you should be able to get a s/h Minolta 3600(d), which is the same power as the Jessops model, lacks the swivel head (just has tilt) but will function as a remote wireless flash (triggered by the Pop-up of the A300).

For a little more (£115+) you can get a s/h Sony 42, which is more powerful and has tilt, swivel and wireless.

Cheers guys. I guess i might give it a miss then, I can get it for £60.

Like i say though, im not after anything amazing, just better than what my a300 has built in :P

You can use it as a better flash than the on-board and it can bounce upwards, for £60 its not a bad unit. However the 42 will work wirelessly with the a300, is more powerful and can tilt to bouce off the wall as well as the ceiling. Depends on what you can find it for...
