I have a Sony 70 to 200 mm 2.8 lens. Is using the Sony 2x teleconverter okay or should I look at getting the longer 5.6 telephoto lens? Thanks!

There is a noticable loss of sharpness with the 2x teleconverter, although I've not tried with the 70-200/2.8 G, only the 300/4 G.

I don't know what the 5.6 telephoto lens you are referring to is.

I'm assuming you are referring to the 70-400G, which is an excellent lens.

I think the 70-400G will outperform the 70-200 + 2xTC - and will also have a better range (70-400 rather than 140-400).

However, it's a more expensive option, and less convenient if you think you'll want both options.

the 70-200 2.8 is superb on it's own, but when i've used the Sony 2x i found there's too much hunting in the focus .. i tried them together at an airshow and won't be doing it again, lost too many shots.
there will be some times it would be ok if you can put up with a slight drop in IQ, but i'd rather use the 70-200 on it's own, or the 70-300 G/70-400 G
