Yes
Pulled the lens out of my bag to find the face plate has fallen off... It seems mostly cosmetic, but should I stick it back on (and if so, with what?) or just leave it?

(and yes - I'm aware it's dusty!)

It should certainly go back on, if only to keep the rest of the contents of the hoover bag falling in. With what, I don't know. Would a screw-in filter hold it on?

:ROFLMAO:
Yeah, I'd actually cleaned it pretty recently, but it's been out the camera bag since it fell off and literally gathering dust.

It was stuck on with lines of double-sided gum by the looks of it. Not sure if taking it out in the cold just froze the gum so it wasn't sticking, or it's just old... Glue seems to permanent, not that I can see it needing to be opened up.

Rather then gluing it or using a filter to hold it in place would a stepping ring hold it on? The advantage over using a filter is that you remove the filter glass and therefore prevent any reflections. I suppose if you could knock the glass out of a filter that'd be better, but it's something I've never tried to do and I don't know if these things would hold it tightly in place anyway.

Remember Bostic? That used to be a rubbery sort of glue that wasn't too strong. If it's still available maybe a couple of small spots of that would hold it in place?

The issue with a filter is it would then stop the lens-hood fitting, assume the same would apply for a stepping ring.

Maybe a soft-glue like you say, nothing runny so it stays when applied, but not strong enough that it can't be pried off again.

I'm still surprised it came off, given the lens hood lives on the lens, it can't have been knocked.

Yup. A filter or stepping ring would mean you'd have to buy another lens cap.

I think I'd try Bostik (I spelt it wrong before) or similar. I haven't seen that for years but googling Bostik rubberied glue gets me to a page so the next challenge is finding it or something like it somewhere to buy :D

A fall back for me is bathroom sealant. If you have a tube of that laying about a couple of spots might do it.
