As for the network/tariff you cant get better than this,

They use the Vodaphone network, but if the phone is locked to a network it would still be worth getting it unlocked to use the sim card.
I was out of contract with orange and have recently ported my existing number to Asda Mobile pay as you go and reduced my costs considerably.
