hi all:thumbs:
new member looking for a bit of advice.

i want to upgrade from my current point and shoot camera
to something a bit better.

i cant justify paying the money for a DSLR,
nor can i afford the extra lenses etc...
so ive been looking at Sony's range of bridge cameras.

ive found the H9 for £230 which i thinks quite good
considering jessops sells the H9 for £370!!

http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/542303/art/sony/cyber-shot-dsc-h9-black.html

does anyone have any experience with this camera?
good/bad?
worth the money?

are there any other cameras you would recommend around the same price bracket?

any help you can offer would be gratefully received

thanks

Alex:)

I can't comment on the Sony module but I did recently upgrade to a 400D from the Canon S3 IS which is a bridge module.

I loved the S3, especially its supermacro mode but overall it was a fantastice camera. The new S5 is available now, not sure what it goes for, but I know for a fact you can get the S3 within your budget.

Hope this helps, good luck with your choice.

Alex (another one!)

cool thanks for that, ive just been looking at the S5 (found it for £215)

so is that a good camera then?
(i know you said you had the S3 but there gonna be kinda similar)

I should image it will be exactly the same in most things and better in others. To be honest, I made the move to DSLR at the same time the S5 was coming out so I haven't read much about it.

The only thing I can tell you is that owning a Canon S3 for less then a year made me desperately want a DSLR, and not because the S3 was crap, it was the opposite, but because it opened my eyes to what could be possible. I really didn't want to sell it at all but it had to fund my upgrade :(

The S3 was easy to use and gave great results, check out my Flickr account for pictures, anything prior to the end of August this year was taken on the Canon S3.

wow.... your good ..... some very good pictures there

you been doing this a long time?

that is a good camera ,very sharp pictures

you might have swayed me towards the S5..... decisions, decisions!!!

thanks a lot for your help Alex,
really appreciate it

can anyone else give me any input on the Sony H9?

Hi Alex, I had the sony H9. I spent ages agonising over this and a Dslr. finally chose the sony. It is great in many ways....massive zoom range, the anti shake feature works incredibly well, allowing hand held long telephoto shots, the macro gets in quite close and the tilting LCD screen is a real asset.
All very good, however all it did was the same as Alex S ... make me want a DSLR even more! I sold it after 2 months, took a loss and bought the DSLR and I haven't regretted it for one second.
Your £230 will get you quite close to an entry level DSLR or a second hand one. It's the only way to go honest.
If you still prefer the Sony I can email you some shots I took with it, just ask :)
Dave

bloody hell Dave ,that's thrown the cat in the pigeons, lol

i was leaning towards the canon, but really like the sony
....and now the option of a DSLR:thinking:

the only thing stopping me stumping up the extra £££ is all the lenses im gonna want but cant afford for the DSLR

and the amount of use the camera will get i cant really justify paying a few hundred quid for another lens

what is the lens like that comes with the d40?
is it alot better than the sony/cannon lenses?

...oh and the fact that the sony/canon has a video recorder is a big pull for me as id use that alot!!!!

Jesus Christ this is hard:help:

oh and if youve got a few pics taken with the H9 you could send me that would be great

thanks for your help mate

Alex

I Bought a canon DSLR not the D40, lens is excellent on that. Video is indeed a plus and it's pretty good on the H9.
Glad to send you pics, PM me with your email adress and I will get on with it :)

Just that 'little' bit more money and you could have an Olympus E-410 twin zoom kit, giving a range of 28mm to 300mm across the two (Superb) kit lenses. Very small and light and VERY capable.

Currently at £379 less the £50 cashback bringing it down to £329 for the lot.

thanks for input chilli

looks like ive got a bit more reading to do now

wow... this is a tough choice.
