Noob question but; Can switching between AF/MF while in video mode damage your camera in any way?

Interested as the fault on my previous A65 only occurred whilst I was setting the camera in manual mode in movie mode ...

I had a SAM lens on at the time but the lens turned out not to be faulty upon inspection at the shop today ... would hate to think that it is something I have done to damage the camera :(

Note: my camera has now been replaced by Jacobs but I just want to make sure before I attempt it on this replacement ;)

the only conceivable issue may occur if you are using a mechanical screw driven lens and force the focus ring (or hold it still) whilst the body is in AF, the camera's drive mechanism is protected to some extent, but I wouldn't make a habit of it.. And obviously

If it's a SAM or SSM/HSM/PZD electrically focussed lens, then no, the body shouldn't have any chance of damage..

Just FYI, The manual/instruction sheet for my SAL35F18 (SAM) says
For manual focusing, be sure to set the focus-mode switch on
the lens to MF. Rotating the focusing ring forcibly without
switching to MF may damage the focusing ring.

As mentioned in your original thread, and you probably where already doing, but you shouldn't use the AF/MF switch on the camera body for SAM lenses, that only disconnects the mechanical drive, you have to use the AF/MF switch on the lens itself..

Thanks for answering Phil :) As you said; I have been switching to MF via the lens so no chance of damaging it that way.

Been testing it tonight and all seems well, hopefully just a freak one off, fingers crossed ;)
