Hi newbie question. Any help gratefully received.

I have an Alpha 850 and when I use my Sigma 10-20mm 1:4-5.6 EX I get a black halo around the outside of my image. I used this on my alpha 700 and all was well. So am I a numpty and this an obvious problem?

Many thanks

Mark

Sony 850 is full frame, 700 is 1.5x crop, ie the sensor is less than half the size.

Sigma 10-20 is only designed to cover the smaller sensor. You need lenses designed for full frame.

Listen thanks everyone. I was sure my camera was toast. Turns out it is a simple case of all the gear and no idea. Mark

You can use it in crop mode. There is that feature on the 850.
I think you still get the same FOV as with an APSC sensor and there will be plenty of pixels to play with. Probably more that the 700.

If you want a true UWA for FF then it will cost you a lot.

Actually someone with that combo reckons you will get more if you crop manually

the Sigma 10-20mm can be used in full frame mode, which is nice because it almost (but not quite) covers the full frame from 14mm on—again, you can get more out of the lens if you crop manually. (But you can force the camera into crop-mode anyhow, if you really want to.)

Consider the Minolta 17-35/3.5 or Sony ZA 16-35/2.8, either of which will complement your A850 very nicely.

I have the Minolta and like it a lot, 17mm on full frame is wiiiiiiiide!
