Yes
I have had the camera for several weeks & it seems fine. I don't know if I have altered something but it seems sluggish now. When I press the shutter button it seems to wait a while before taking the photo. Sometimes I seem to have to press it very hard to take the photo. I also have an A7. On that I press the shutter half way down, and a green light & sound happen in a split second (in good light), I then continue to press the shutter button, the complete action happens in a split second. I thought the A6300 was similar. I have reset the A6300 twice but can't seem to get it to focus when the button is halfway down, & then continue on to complete taking the picture. I don't see any green display or sound bleep to say it is in focus.
As I said before, now when I press the shutter it goes straight down, hunts for a few seconds, then when pressed hard it seems to focus & take the pictue quickly (but only after a second or more of waiting for it to activate. I have missed several photo opportunities because of this. I am using the kit lens but it happens the same on my Sony 70-400 lens (the earlier one). The movie button works straight away every time.

Since posting I have tried a panorama shot. This just needs a light touch to the shutter button, yet any normal one has to be pushed right down & then pushed harder. No ideas anyone?

Its not set to continuous autofocus (AF-C) is it? That might explain the hunting and not taking a shot until you press the shutter button.

No. It's on AF-S but I have tried it in all focus modes & it's the same.

Fair enough - apologies if that was teaching granny to suck eggs! That sounds very weird. Have you tried setting it to back-button AF to see if that makes any difference?

First thanks for your help. I seem to have altered every option in the menu. I have since returned the camera to factory setting & it still does it. I also have an A7 & I compared the two, the A7 is still working correctly after 3 years, half a press & a green light & sound & another half click & the photo is taken perfectly. My wife tried the two cameras & she took perfect pictures with the A7 but struggled to make the A6300 work. I think it is faulty & will have to sort it with the supplier tomorrow.

No worries - not sure how much help it was in the end! Hope you get it sorted though :)

I was playing around with the camera & found that if I press the 'AM/MF' button it instantly sets focus with a lit up green square & beep. The shutter button will then activate with just a slight touch, as it should do. Is there a way to make the 'AM/FM' button focus activation change to the shutter button? I imagine that would sort out the problem. Now it seems this is called 'Back Button Focus'. I have followed you tube videos but they say how to turn 'back button focus' on, I can't seem to make the reverse happen. Can anyone tell me the steps to take to stop 'back button focus' & return to the shutter button.

If you don't already have a copy, I would recommend Gary Friedmand's A6300 guide (I've got his guides for my A6000 and A900).

http://www.friedmanarchives.com/a6300/index.htm

The guides explain all the various functions, as well as when they might be used.
There are also suggestions on button customisation settings, which make a good starting point.
I was going to say the info would be in there, but I have spotted he also has a guide dedicated to back button focus on Sony mirrorless;

http://friedmanarchivespress.com/ashop/index.php?product=85

So that might be the one which has the info directly (I'd still recommend the main guide as well, so much better then the Sony manual)

Now it seems this is called 'Back Button Focus'.

I feel like slightly less of a numpty for mentioning it now! Did that sort you out?

Your not a numpty. It was a good call, it was also mentioned on the Sony A6300 thread, but at the moment I stll can't get it to go back to the shutter release. I contacted Sony on line chat a few days back, even they didn't mention that. We di go over the complete reset (for the third time). That should have put it back to shutter release. They seem to think it is a hardware problem, so it looks like it's going back.
